Description Serre di Rapolano, Italy

This beautiful little medieval town, built in the 1200s, has only about 50 residents. I spent a lovely (but cold and brisk) morning wandering through its winding passages.

gorgeous!
i have been looking at this one for a long time and am so drawn to it, perhaps because of the colors, the subject, the texture...then this morning i thought...this is exactly how i would have shot this, if i had been there! i have googled the town and wanna go! it has been my dream to visit italy for as long as i can remember..to wander those winding passages that you did, is my idea of a perfect day! i am glad you were able to go...

I thought of you and your images of the island [link] as I looked through these images. Oh, Marianne! It was the most wonderful little town (my new favorite) and I know you would love to wander through its streets. It is one of those little known medieval villages with very few residents left. I had the most wonderful, inspiring day there.

interesting. i thought of those windows i shot as well when i saw the curve of this doorway.
this building is much more colorful than "my" building.
i will be going back to "my" building on april 21 to bring my mother back home. i will spend a few days before we start the drive back and i hope to get some more shots there...when i was there in february there was some odd construction going on so i was unable to get the shot i wanted..fingers crossed i can do it this time cuz i think it will be my last trip back there (unless tom and i go some day).

MrNoxx In reply to hummbuzz [2011-03-26 05:05:23 +0000 UTC]

Yes but I think they wouldn't want it any other way. Imagine infecting them with all this crap in the world.

It's true...they have the luxury of living a very simple, and neighborly life.
But what will happen when they die out? (for most of the current residents are elderly), will the town die as well?

MrNoxx In reply to hummbuzz [2011-03-26 05:28:26 +0000 UTC]

It probably will, its most likely what a real retirement home should be...

Oh, Lucia...this was the most amazing little medieval town! And almost deserted now (only about 50 people live there, mostly older folk).
I got some incredible texture photos there.

I believe it was ... like a kind of treasure. And you know, this picture seems so familiar to me... We find many old houses like this one here - weathered paint and wood, rusty iron works... so "rich" in their decay!

hummbuzz In reply to m-lucia [2011-03-26 02:56:27 +0000 UTC]

...and they're all so beautiful to me, the arched doorways and old wood, the colorful shutters covering the windows. I would love to live behind one of those doors.
