Description My fine art piece for the "Scars of Mirrodin" block from Magic the Gathering. It was started shortly before February 2011 and was finished last week, first week of May 2011. Background is watercolor and the figures are marker.
All 5 planeswalkers of the set are present, along with two of the biggest Legendaries from the set. Turns out it lined up perfectly with the novel (which was better than Zendikar but still bad.)
And of course, some of the fun phyrexian creatures from Scars and Besieged.
Look forward for more details!
Magic is owned by Wizards of the Coast. I do not own any of it. If I did, I could die happy. XP

I just love the way you do this. You did it in Rise of The Eldrazi and now in New Pyrexia. Putting the planeswalkers in impossible situations against impossible odds. I love the character selection. Well, you may have threw there one or two praetors, but anyway is a great piece.

See ya!

I working on some art of the Praetors right now, but when I started this piece Mirrodin Besieged had just come out so the praetors were just shadows still. XD
I hope to keep this up for all the blocks for the remainder of the Neowalker Saga. Maybe I should go back and do one for Alara too. XD

Cool. It's missing something though... Oh, I know! It's missing the Myr whooping everyone's ass!

There is an Ichorclaw Myr, but a Myr Superion would definitely kick some ass!

I also just noticed you made Tezzy look even MORE Jamaican than usual.

It's the dreadlocks, man. They always look cool, but they also always look Jamaican. XD Might be his nose too. I tried to get that same cliff like nose he had from his first planeswalker card. XD

Yeah, there was less whining in Quest than in Zendikar. Although the ending made me question why they keep letting that guy write books.

Also, great picture.

Thank you!
And agreed, Wintermute is bad. They need the original writers back: Herndon, McGough, Grubb, Beyer.

Excellent! Glad there are those who think the same. I've liked the Planeswalker novels, but I miss the books that covered each set in a block. You got the whole story then! I wish we could have seen all the phases of the Phyrexian/Mirran War. Like the actual war!

The only planeswalker novel I've liked so far was Agents of Artifice. Purifying Flame was ok, although I didn't like the characterization of Chandra as a homicidal lunatic, and Test of Metal was awful, due to the fact that Nicol Bolas turned into the Joker, Baltrice turned into a foulmouthed puppy and the entire book is apparently not in canon, since at the end of the book, Tezzeret has two flesh arms, has a compulsion spell inside of his brain and is being ordered to go to Mirrodin, whereas in the comics and in Quest, he wasn't ordered to go to Mirrodin for a while, didn't have a compulsion spell inside of his brain and had a new arm given to him by Nicol Bolas. But that's just me.

I really wish Quest for Karn had had the Praetors in it. I really would like to learn more about them, since they seem infinitely more interesting than the xenophobic asshole, the occasionally feminist wuss, the coward, the whore, the rage-y suck up and the lunatic. Yeah, I didn't really like the characterizations in that book either.

Although, if you are interested in learning more about the war, it's worth reading the field reports on the mothership. They give a view of the war from both sides and are fairly long and in depth, about...seven or eight chapters a piece, each chapter being a page or so long. I read a couple of them and they're not bad at all.

I agree about the Praetors. I really like them and want to know more!
But I've liked all the Planeswalker novels. I didn't see Chandra as a homicidal lunatic, but more of an adolescence with too much power. And I loved Test of Metal! Tezzeret as an A-listing villain! But even Bolas was the king in the end. But I agree, the Dr. Joke character was kinda lame. But the ending was great, Tezzeret tells Bolas "I work WITH you, not FOR you," and when he hears Bolas wanted him to go to Mirrodin he says "Why not?" I'd say it's canon, and Quest for Karn isn't. I want to know how and why Tezzeret got his Etherium arm back, cuz he can at any time since he knows the secret to making it, it's the why.

Eh, to each his own. I've come to the conclusion that it's not worth arguing over the Magic storyline, since it's so fragmented and questionable.

HuntedComics In reply to panahinuva [2011-05-24 04:36:47 +0000 UTC]

Very true. Ever since the end of the Rift Saga, I'd say the Lorwyn/Shadowmoor saga, the continuity has been shattered.
But you're right. No good arguing over it.

panahinuva In reply to HuntedComics [2011-05-24 04:47:17 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I've learned that the hard way. Arguing on the internet will just make you sad. And anyway, there is an upside to shattered continuity: WE CAN MAKE UP OUR OWN STORIES AND SAY THEY'RE CANON.

Touche! I like the way you think!
And it also makes you mad. If you look at my "Rise of the Eldrazi" Piece, I had a stream arguing with this one guy over the color of Jace's hair. XD

Oh dear...We've never actually seen it without energy around him, so it could either be blue or black.

HuntedComics In reply to panahinuva [2011-05-26 04:36:10 +0000 UTC]

I believe it's white/gray. It use to look blue/gray in the original card art. Then the webcomic colorists made it brown. Aleksi Briscot and Kev Walker both had him with blue/gray, so i draw Jace with it. But it's so hard to tell, darn hood!

panahinuva In reply to HuntedComics [2011-05-26 15:40:42 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. Ah well, chalk it up to inconsistent art. Which is odd, since they haven't had inconsistent art since they got the style guide. You should write to wizards and ask for the style guide entry about Jace to clear this argument up.

Woah!

This surely was worth all the time and effort. Though it's very colourful, the colours harmonize very well, and even create a sort of rhythm that zig-zags from end to end of the piece. There's also a fascinating variety of poses, expressions and characters.

I daresay this is one of your best. : D
