I don't see them as characters with personalities. For me they're like actors with their songs as their roles.

They're blank slates for one reason (so that people could create a personality out of them).
But since I associate them with songs when I give them personalities, I have a lot of Len. Like for this one, his reply would be like that because he's the gloomy Len. He'd rather sulk in a corner contemplating his existence (or lack thereof) than actually care about what's happening around him.
