Description Finally finished this after working on it for a good...longer than I should
have. I'm pretty content with how it looks and I'm just glad it's finished.
Anyways, as it (hopefully) goes without saying, this is a map. Of what? A
fictional continent in a story I have been working on. I'll most likely have a
journal entry explaining the story itself in more detail.

The continent's name is Midgard; the countries and areas making up Midgard are
as follows:

Bronnia: A country made up of many independently-functioning towns and
villages. No federal form of government exists, although the towns communicate
regularly and all share a strong bond with one another, an example of which
would be their united resistance to Vigrond.

Vigrond: The largest and most advanced of the five main nations, it is an
empire dedicated to militarianism and currently possesses one of the largest
armies seen since the ancient days. Past emperors have dedicated themselves to
expanding the nation's borders, perhaps even wishing to conquer the whole of
Midgard, although the current emperor has made attempts for diplomatic and
peaceful relations with the other countries.

Anglen: A culturally advanced nation, it benefits from being an island in that
it is excluded from the majority of the quarrels the other countries have with
each other. Along with an alliance with Vigrond, this allowed Anglen to
concentrate heavily on education; it boasts Midgard's greatest historians and
philosophers, along with its most impressive museums.

Uppsala: A theocracy, Uppsala is dedicated to peace and serving as a voice of
the gods. Its capital, Gamla Uppsala, was once the capital of Midgard, but the
country has since then become smaller. Due to the religious population in
Vigrond, Uppsala has been spared for after the initial invasions many years
ago. The country also possesses many historical artifacts and monuments.

Reigota: A collection of islands in the eastern ocean; its inhabitants, having
long used the majority of the islands' resources, have sought goods and
products from other countries; in doing so, and due to the lack of work to be
done on the islands compared to their high populations, a very large number of
its inhabitants live as mercenaries, pirates, or body guards in the other
countries. Their long history of swordsmanship and other fighting abilities
leaves many of these fighters-for-hire very skilled and wanted.

Aflheim: Long ago, this country was much larger, as the Gandvik Bay in its
center was once all land. Atop this, the fertile and vast land was inhabited
by Midgard's population of Elves. Even compared to the current countries, the
ancient society of Elves possessed technology and knowledge beyond any of the
other races or countries. A sudden catastrophe occured, creating a crater that
would become the bay, turning the landscape into barren desert, and
eradicating the Elves entirely. The area is more commonly called simply the
'Southern Desert' in the present day and the only living souls to be found are
brigands, thieves, and pirates.

Nidavellir: A country that, despite being vastly larger than the five main
countries (Anglen, Bronnia, Vigrond, Uppsala, and Reigota), possesses the
smallest population, consisting of scattered settlements. The country is cold
and quite untouched, as dense forests still cover much of it. This country had
once been the sole land of Dwarves, before they had left the world. To the
south, past a great river bisecting the country, the Myrkwood forest thrives.
To the North is nothing but frozen tundra, uninhabitable by all but a handful
of creatures.

Glaicisvellir: An unpopulated and barren island possessing no indigenous
wildlife. The ground is frozen and no plants can survive. Glaicers and
snowfalls cover the land. The island itself is unknown to the majority of the
rest of Midgard.

Samsa: An unusual island found in the middle of the Mettelmeer Sea. A strange
group of people populate it, but are, for the most part, left alone by the
other countries. Strange stories and tales of this island are easily found in
any port city, but while many believe them wholeheartedly, others claim them
to be merely hearsay and myths.

Myrkwood: The great, dark forest in the southern portion of Nidavellir. Here
is said to be the last habitat of the ancient monsters that had once populated
all of Midgard, but had been pushed back by the combined efforts of Elves and
Dwarves in the ancient days.

Nidafoll Mountains: The impassable range of steep and craggy mountains. It
easily seperates Nidavellir from the rest of Midgard, leaving it untouched and
unaffected by the conflicts and actions of the other countries.

Danaan Forest: The only surviving area that had once been a part of Aflheim.
It is a large and jungle-like sea of trees that had been found as a haven for
the Elves that had survived the initial catastrophe, although they all
disappeared in the forest shortly after. Other than the people of Reigota, who
pass near the forest by crossing the Danaan Isthmus to reach the Mittelmeer
sea, none come close to venturing near the forest. Despite this, accounts of
strange occurrences by the few who catch a glimpse of untouched forest tell
stories of unusual noises and sights.

Mittelmeer Sea: The ocean in the center of the world, connecting all the
countries but Anglen and Reigota. Here, many of the countries' sources of food
and income arise, along with an effient means of transportation between
countries.

Hvergilmer Sea: Supposedly a vast and deep ocean in ancient times, the sea has
since frozen over with a thick sheet of ice and snow. What lies beneath is
unknown to the few familiar with the sea.

Gandvik Bay: In ancient times, a calamity engulfed half of Aflheim, leaving
the population of Elves, despite their advancements and knowledge, destroyed
and, as an unremovable reminder, left a great scar on Midgard in the form of a
crater. This crater filled with water and became the Gandvik Bay. Even in the
present day, long after the catastrophe, peoples of the other countries avoid
the sea, although there is little reason to visit it, as no fish inhabit the
relatively-young sea.
