Description I drew this sexy halfling for an RPG -- as you see, she's a lot more inspired by the old-style halflings, with no shoes, rather than the skinny, shoe-wearing nomads who look like mini-elves, like the later D&D editions turned them into. All right, maybe they wanted to go further away from Tolkien's hobbits, but still... I liked the old halflings better.

Excellent picture, and I agree that they've gone too far - most of the time I can't tell if its an elf without context.

Too much kender in the later halflings.

Just to clarify;

Halflings were originally straight Hobbits. Then the estate of J.R.R. Tolkien threatened to sue TSR if they didn't change them.

Good art by the by.

I know, but the change was really about the name rather than the appearance -- the 3rd edition change from the pudgy, homebody little people to the opportunistic nomadic wanderers (heavily based on the kender from Dragonlance) wasn't due to the Tolkien estate, but simply a change based on how most players ended up playing the halflings anyway.

I can understand the change, but I did like the halflings from earlier editions better.

Thank you, by the by. ^_^
