Though a humble appearance, Liu Kang is definitely the Chosen One. Once an orphan living on the streets, Liu Kang was taken in by the Shaolin monks apart of the Order of Light within the Honan Province. He was trained in martial arts, becoming one of their finest warriors, which caught the attention of the god Raiden. He took him to Outworld in order to have him trained in the arts that Bo' Rai Cho had been teaching. He would eventually become one of Earthrealm's defenders in the Mortal Kombat Tournament, alongside others like Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Jax Briggs, Raiden and has also begun a somewhat romantic relationship with the Edenian Princess Kitana.

Liu Kang is probably one of the greatest combatants of Earthrealm, capable of taking on beings twice his size and strength, including that of Shao Kahn. He is known to maintain and increase his great strength with that of daily meditation and he possesses great durability and agility, as well as speed. Aside from his physical abilities, Liu Kang possesses the ability to generate and manipulate fire, mostly as a means of shooting fireballs, as well as setting his limbs on fire to enhance the damage he is using against his foes. He also seems to have hardly aged at all, possibly through his powers and physical fitness. He is also able to transform into a dragon, capable of breathing fire as well. Despite his great strength and power, Liu Kang is not invincible and can die if he's overpowered by an enemy more powerful than himself.
