A freshly forged blade from the steel of the an ancient greatsword. Oathkeeper was made from the Valyrian Steel greatsword called Ice, once owned by House Stark. Tywin Lannister had invited a man from Volantis to reforge the steel into 2 smaller swords, one being Widow's Wail and the other being Oathkeeper. Tywin gave Oathkeeper to Jaime Lannister, who would later give it to Brienne of Tarth, as a way for her to uphold his vow to Catelyn Stark to return her daughters and uphold Brienne's oath to protect both Arya and Sansa.
