Description Or so they call it.

Labradorite doughnut, usual construction.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT NOTE (PLEASE READ BELOW IN CASE YOU WANT ONE OF THESE)

After the many times I have been asked about whether I can make another piece like this, the answer is yes I can, however although I don't dislike fully this period of my work (all the weaves that is) I have outgrown it.

So I would like to stress that I will only revisit any such motifs if the price tag makes it justifiable for me, those asking and hoping to be charged less than £120-150 (+ the cost of the gemstone if it is an expensive one) (+shipping from wherever I happen to be in the world via private courier) for something of that period please do not take offence but I will not entertain the messages or requests.

I write this because I prefer to make that clear than to have to take these pieces off my deviantart gallery.

That's gorgeous. I love the sweeping lines and the doughnut stone you used.

I'm glad you like it

I don't know why but I don't like the smile in D.A it reminds me of someone who is arrogantly smug and that is not how I mean the smile, nor is it in the jester style of the open grin.

Apologies for the random comment, I just felt it was necessary.

Quite all right. I rather agree with you. The plain fontface symbols convey the mood much better. I shall take the intent rather than the strict form. : )

Yes I do.

And don't worry about not realising before, sometimes there's hardly anytime to check the work of everyone around, but I am very glad you like my work Ahh and thanks for the watch too!

Thank you for your comments. In hindsight I wish I could make it again (well I suppose nothing is stopping me from making a "take two" version), I would just change a few things and achieve a cleaner looks. So the moral of the story is, never make anything in a rush in order to sell, you might regret it later.

Wow thats pretty. The lines and the stone work so well. I like to use a flexshaft to clean up solder, if one is available.

Hyllyn In reply to Rrye [2007-10-26 14:37:30 +0000 UTC]

That being the key phrase, if one is available.

At that period of time I was working on a kitchen table, then onto a garden bench kind of thing and with very very basic tools, still I hold myself accountable for any shortcomings in craftsmanship.

Thank you for the comments btw it is genuinely appreciated.

Regards

hate to be rude but the messy solder in the bottom centre bugs me

You know, now that I think of it. It was most likely preventable.

I should have filed them even with the bigger files I had prior to welding it to the rest. Goes to show what rushing something does.

Thanks for the opportunity to study one of my own pieces in a way I had not done so. It's much appreciated.

well i hope it doesnt eat you up inside I think it's very beautiful despite that one flaw. I feel bad i criticized

so, where did you get your labrodite for the centre of it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hyllyn In reply to Glacier-Grrl [2006-09-14 12:51:02 +0000 UTC]

Well you shouldn't feel bad. You see it doesn't offend me to get criticism that might make me think on how to get my own work to improve, so please don't feel bad, I certainly don't feel bad myself, I just made a note of not rushing any step to prevent something similar from happening.

I didn't get it in Canada if that answers your question but seeing as your country exports loads and loads of it I managed to get one through a friend in Venezuela. I have another big huge pebble like one which was a present too but that one is only for looking at

Me too... I just didn't have any jeweller's files when I was making this one, so couldn't correct that detail before it went.

No need to apologise, I appreciate both a compliment and a reasonable and accurate critique

Wonderful piece - i like how you used the elements of the design to hold the stone in place. The bezel doesn't look pressed over the stone?
Black foam, hmmmm, I'll have to try it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hyllyn In reply to LinaLeah [2006-04-27 14:16:53 +0000 UTC]

Thank you my friend.

The bezel is not pressed indeed, I just measured it as you do then filed down slightly the inside where it would "sit" and used a punch to bend it only slightly, it is imperceptible but that helps to keep it in place and not just rely on pressure, however if you wanted to you could push the stone out of course, however if you opted for wearing it without trying destructive techniques it works just fine

Black foam is an old trick however I really came across first time as proper usage when trying out temper lines in blades, will give you a link so that you see the explanation. ([link] ) there you go.

Haha yeah, well now you know indeed.

Still I have a bunch of work to do with other pieces but well they will get finished accordingly when they are meant to be so I might disappear at times yet again.

Wow, beautiful piece and wonderful lines. And you did a great job capturing the color in the Labrodite. I have not been able to get a decent picture of my labrodite with all of it's color....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Hyllyn In reply to kimistry3 [2006-04-24 23:17:13 +0000 UTC]

It is to do with angle and something to contrast the stone with, in this case a piece of black foam works fine to take some "shine" away from the stone and show its colours.

Thanks for the compliments
