myself i dont actually know her backstory properly and i came up with her xD see in my headcannon when nightmare moon created her for her personal army she mixed the dna of an alicorn of discord and of course bat pony the result was winter she has a heart of pure gold and very playful in the world my mind created though nightmare although banished created her own army on the moon and though she was stuck on the moon via magical means a condtion of her banishment she waged war on celestia and sent her army of bat ponys to fight a war that spanned over 10 years winter was the commander of her army named at that time as commander steel wing and when it came down to it it was a battle between winter and celestia herself no matter how powerful winter was/is she was still no match for the princess but being created from all these different dnas she for some reason cant be killed and doesnt age she is just odd nothing can explain her but before celestia could imprison her night using what magic she had left teleported her to her children of the night secret holding place where she kept her asleep for 1000
