Description I made this little fox as a gift for someone. I desperately need more practice with animals, his proportions are way off. He looks rather more like a dog or a wolf, except for the coloration.

He's 3 inches tall, 4 inches long. Made of air-drying clay on a wire armature.

How do you create the fur effect?

Hey there. I think this looks great! If I offered any constructive criticism it would be maybe the muzzle should be a bit pointier (I think that is where you are saying it looks more like a wolf) and the lifted paw is just a hair too long.
Otherwise this is amazing. There are so many 2d artists on here, it's great when a sculptor has work on here! Keep it up, my friend.

This sculpture actually looks really nice! Although foxes are usually a little shorter and have a bit of a cat-like body I can definitely see a fox c:

It's beautiful! I love the colour and the fur, I have a half finished fox that is no where near as good!
My only critique would be his extended paw is a little too long, but you probably know this. I can't wait to see more of your sculpts

Thank you! I don't have too much experience with making armatures for animals, and if the armature is off, then the whole thing comes out kinda wonky. By the time I covered it with clay and realized I had made a mistake, it seemed a bit late to go back and fix it. Always a good learning experience though

I've still not worked out how to do none wonky armatures!
I really love your fox and wish I had half the skill you do

First I sculpt the basic form out of air-drying clay. When it has started to dry out, I go over it with a wooden tool and carve the fur.

Great figurine! So much detail! It really is beautiful! ^ ^
You are right, it's proportions are more that of a wolf or dog, just remember foxes are shorter and fluffier
