Description

The Marginocephalia clade does not only include the heavily built ceratopsians, it also includes the thick-domed pachycephalosaurs, many of which made the Northern Hemisphere their home, specifically North America and China. Both clades lived alongside with each other before the infamous K-Pg Event that wiped out most, if not all the non-avian dinosaurs. Like most of the surviving dinosaur in the world of Hypoemtasia, they managed to evolve and diversified themselves, adapting to the environment they lived in. Nearly all members of this clade retained their body plan, albeit with some changes made in their diet and behavior as a means to adapt to their environment, this is most prominent with the Agarthenian pachycephalosaur known as the Prickly Ramhead.

Measuring at the length of between 4 to 5 meters long and weighing between 450 to 500 kilograms, the Prickly Ramhead is only slightly larger and heavier than its ancestor, the Pachycephalosaurus. They can be seen throughout the prairies, shrublands, valleys, and even the canyon of central and Southern Agartha. Like all pachycephalosaurs, the Prickly Ramhead possesses a thick skull roof, in which it uses to ram its opponent head on. It was said that the force produced is capable of punching through a thin concrete wall, however further research and study would be necessary to find out whether their dome is truly capable of such. Equipped with a pair of powerful beak which allows the Prickly Ramheads to crack open the shell of certain fruits and freshwater crustaceans, the Agarthenian pahycephalosaur is capable of feeding on both plant and animal matter they could place into their mouth, Their beaks were said to be capable of chopping a man's arm into half if one is unlucky to get his or her arms between its beak. Covered with sharp quill-like osteoderms that runs through its entire flank, the osteoderm helps to protect the pachycephalosaur from predators of any kind, making them very tricky to be preyed upon. Their skins are also extremely thick and tough, able to withstand several shots from a 11mm round which was said to be very powerful for a pistol due to its stopping power. Their arms are slightly longer than those possessed by their ancestor, as they will occasionally switch between a bipedal and a quadrupedal stance. All Prickly Ramheads have their tail covered with quills in which they used to communicate with one another and to drive off any intruders off their territory by rattling their tail aggressively, similar to that of a peacock of our world. The tip of the Prickly Ramhead's tail is similar to that of an ankylosaur, capable of breaking bones if enough force is applied onto the club.

Mostly solitary throughout the entire year, both male and female Prickly Ramhead will keep a distance between each other, unless one of them is ready to start a family with. Both the male and the female will form a group of between 4 to 8 and congregate around a watering hole. The males will compete with each other with the intention of attracting a female, by first emitting a series of low-freqeuncy grunt and bellow which will be heard by the females. The males will then flash out their bright orange throat pouch, accompanied with a series of grunts and bellow. In certain cases where both competitors are on equal ground, they will use their trademark thick dome to smash the underbelly of their opponents, pushing their opponents off-balance with all their strength. The victor will mate with the female he desires to live with, whereas the losers will have to wait for that time to come again. After copulation, the male Prickly Ramhead will form a strong bond with the female Prickly Ramhead it has mated with. Vigilant watchers, the males will constantly watch over her and the clutches of eggs she laid, somewhere between 2 to 4,  for around 4 weeks to ensure the safety of her and their offspring. Upon hatching out, the two pachycephalosaurs will feed their offspring and protect them viciously from any predators that will attempt to eat them for around 5 months. After that time period, the young pachycephalosaurs will then have to leave their parents and start a life of their own.

Known by the Red Agarthenians for their monogamistic lifestyle and their tendency of being extremely loyal to those that bears a special meaning to them, the Prickly Ramheads are regarded as the symbol of true love and loyalty; known by the Agarthenians for their tendency of being extremely viligant, their loyalty and their powerful bite, the Agarthenians used the pachycephalosaur as guard dogs to help watch their settlements from any possible intruder. The Prickly Ramhead's osteoderms makes capturing it using your own bare hands nigh impossible, as these osteoderms are extremely sharp and can easily puncture through flesh. Not only that, their tough skin are capable of withstanding severe beating and blows, meaning that once they identify something within their visual range as a threat to itself or its owner, nothing can truly stop them at the slightest until you can get your hands on a 12.7mm handcannon. What makes facing it head on much worse is its biteforce and its spike-laden dome, capable of chopping through a person's arm with ease and inflicting deep puncture wounds or blows which will immediately render a person dead. Thus, the Agarthenian government and private security forces will use the ramhead to guard high-value targets, especially key political and military figures, in which many of the Ramheads used to protect these figures are much more dangerous than the Prickly Ramheads seen in the wild, due to them being raised from a very young age and trained to follow these figures no matter when or where, making them extremely useful saurian guard dogs.

The Prickly Ramhead was something that I wanted to place in my Hypoemtasia Bestiary since the month of December, multiple concept arts were made before the final concept art for the Ramhead was finalized months ago. They can be said to be a fusion between an Oviraptor, a boar, a dog and a bighorn sheep: possessing the powerful bite of an Oviraptor, the tough hide of a boar, the loyalty of a dog and the tendency of ramming its opponents either head on or by the flank.

Inspired and based from Transapient's highly-evolved basal pachycephalosaur from his ( reworked or revamped?) Life of Seiek series, and the Therickun from his original Life of Seiek series.
Credits to Lediblock2 (www.deviantart.com/lediblock2 ) for the idea of a horn-laden quadrupedal pachycephalosaur!

More GUUD stuff to come soon!
