Oh Palea* what have you done to me! Yi qi don't let me go and when I look daily on DA and Google I see how the pages get filled with more and more interpretations of this extraordinary fossil so the whole community seems to be in a rush.

The story of this drawing/painting is quickly told. Two days ago credited me as the inventor of the "camera trap plaeo-meme", while I'm not sure if this is true it was the spark for an idea which already had some shape in my sketchbook but now got a darker setting.
I tried not to show this animal in flight or in a way which show how the Patagium is attached to the trunk or legs because flight abilities and correct posture of these soft structures are still unknown. It was also important to me to lead the eye of the viewer not directly at Yi but turn the animal into a secondary spot so that, when everything works, the eyes first find the Ginkgo leaf (Ginkgoites to be correct) and then follow the tail feathers toward the head with the glowing eye.
So here it is, Yi at night, produced with colored pencils, white ink and gouache paint on dark blue paper (DinA3), one day worktime.
