I just started watching the original 'Captain Harlock' series recently. I'm more than 35 years too late but oh well haha Better later than never I guess
I'm a sucker for big, tough heros with a soft side ^^ I wanted to draw a harm embrace for a while but I wasn't sure who to draw. I found Harlock and Mayu's relationship rather endearing. Sappy at times, but endearing (I like sappy so I'm not complaining 
I spent a lot longer on this than I thought I would. In the end, I'm quite statisfied with the result! The colors turned out pretty rich looking, and it gives the warm, fuzzy feeling I like from a "hugging picture" ^_-
As for Harlock, I modeled him after both the classic version and the 2013 movie version.

I'm watching the original 70s one ^^ I stopped watching it for a while but I got inspired to try watching it again after seeing the trailer for the 2013 movie! It's an interesting show!
