This is one of the main characters of one of the lesser known gems of the anime world, 'Tenshi no Tamago' or, in english, 'Angel's Egg'.

Have any of you seen this film? If so, what did you think of it?

'Angel's Egg' was one of the most bizarre anime films I've ever seen, not really because it was filled with trippy images and whatnot, but because of the immence amount of symbolism that was dumped into this movie! And when I say dumped, I mean DUMPED. I'm a pretty deep person and can often find my own interpretations of allegorical themes used in anime or in any medium pretty much. This anime. broke. my. brain. to pieces. In fact, it's SO deep, not even the MAKER of 'Angel's Egg' completely knows how the film should be interpreted!

There is also a lot of religious symbolism in this movie. This character is one such example. He's almost always shown carrying this "cyber-punk styled" cross on his shoulders (which is what is shown in this drawing) and he has bandages wrapped around the palms of his hands...hmm...

There isn't a whole lot of talking...or plot for that matter in 'Angel's Egg', but it's an intruiging piece of animation! One of the leading animators of the film is Yoshitaka Amano who is one of my favorite artists of all time...so that's another plus!

So anyway, this drawing was done with colored pencils. The border was painted with metalic gold, acrylic paint.

I may make a companion piece to this one in the future of the film's other main character...
