Description So here is a...I guess you could call it a study. Maybe.

Anyways this is Afghan Girl, as painted in my style (minus the white eyes. They just didn't fit). It's a very famous photo taken by Steve McCurry back in 1984. I'm sure you've seen it. Hopefully it's okay for me to draw this.

The thing I focused on most was to get that intense stare right. Not all the way there. But still, I'm pretty happy with it.

Lovely Job! You got a very good match on the colors and the overall force of her unique stare. The messy hair and rumpled shawl are perfect. If I could point out one thing, it would be the tilt of her eyes. In the original photo her closest eye has a tilt of about 10 degrees from the inside to the outside corner. Your eye is tilted closer to 30 degrees. Adjusting that would help bring her appearance closer to the original. Overall it's a great piece, and very good timing considering what is currently going on in the world!

This is a beautiful tribute to the Afghan Girl. I recognized her immediately, and I'm drawn to the way you emphasized her gorgeous eyes. The rough brushwork of your style is a fantastic compliment to the warm tones and haunted gaze of her figure. You were able to wonderfully capture the essence of a young girl in the midst of a refugee crisis, which continues to be important today. Overall, I love this style of portraiture and this portrait in particular. You mentioned not being completely satisfied with her eyes, but I don't think they need a lot of development. If you were to over-detail them, as I am wont to do, they would stand out from the rest of your style too much; any less, and I'm not sure they would have the impact they do. I look forward to more portraits in the future!

I happen to -have- that edition of NG, and even the new one they did 20 years later when they found her again.

Lovely job on the clothing, skin and facial features
I instantly recognized what photo you referenced
If I could give a small critique though, I'd say the eyes
might not be aligned, as the look a little wonky...Ā
Also they seem to look a bit flat, compared to the rest of
the picture? But I'm not quite sure why...
Still, it looks really nice

Yeah there is something about them. I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what. But it might be the angle to them.

Thanks!
