Description The sun had already set and the last light of the day was fading into the darkness of the night, Photographically a challenging and near impossible time to capture an image, but what a perfect time to experience an encounter with this wild animal.

Getting photos of the black phases are next to impossible aren't they? I can never get the focus and detail to pop out due to the heavy contrast.

Beautiful shot.
At first when I saw it, I wondered where the other hind leg was, and then I saw that it went behind the rock, it's just hard to see his leg against the dark body.

[link] <---same wolf he has all four The photo is puzzling to me as well looking at it... intresting pose he has there!

There was a famous wolf named 253M nicknamed limpy that had a damaged leg that hobbled hundreds of miles over the region being the first wolf to arrive in Utah since reintroduction. he was shot and killed in Wyoming shortly after the endangered species act was lifted...
Amazing that the animal despite his injury was able to survive for so many years and cover such a great distance. A tragedy to be killed by a bullet of rage.

This is such a fantastic shot. The wolf's eyes and it's smoky fur against the white snow it's all just so... mysterious. Love it.

This picture is lovely- shooting him against the snow does a great job of emphasizing him, and all the white keeps excessive background noise down, so even though you're shooting with a high ISO, it's not distracting in this photo. I really love how vivid his eyes are, too. Excellent shot!

Another great capture. I'd be worried about being dinner.

Iamidaho In reply to Merlinstouch [2008-04-30 23:22:49 +0000 UTC]

there are actually zero documented cases of wolves ever picking humans for dinner. While wolves have eaten dead humans from plane wrecks ect they have never chosen them as prey.
