Getting photos of the black phases are next to impossible aren't they? I can never get the focus and detail to pop out due to the heavy contrast.

Beautiful shot.
At first when I saw it, I wondered where the other hind leg was, and then I saw that it went behind the rock, it's just hard to see his leg against the dark body.

There was a famous wolf named 253M nicknamed limpy that had a damaged leg that hobbled hundreds of miles over the region being the first wolf to arrive in Utah since reintroduction. he was shot and killed in Wyoming shortly after the endangered species act was lifted...
Amazing that the animal despite his injury was able to survive for so many years and cover such a great distance. A tragedy to be killed by a bullet of rage.
