Description shot completely off the hip in split second timing;
turned around to catch mahlan playing the
monkey bar game that's the latest rage -
trying to fly off the bars and not use your
hands to break your fall. his expression of pure
terror (haha) makes me crack up everytime i see it.
utterly forgives the poor quality, imo.

this needs a good title if you have one.

Reminds me of Yves Klien and his Leap into the Void -
your image is just as good if not better.

"Off the Hip" seems like suitable title to me, not only because of how you shot the subject, but also because the bar was just on mahlan's hip before his release.

Aww...he's so cute! I'm one of those kids who's always too scared to do anything like that...and if I did, I'll forget to put my hands out in front to catch myself...

I love this shot, though! It's awesome...his expression is so funny!

ohh yes, me too! much too frightened
to even spin on the bars at all.

i have avoided injuries at all costs all my life..
at the expense of missing out on some fun, i'm sure.

thanks for your wonderful comment.
is that your name, k-chan?
if no, what is your name?

Koukris In reply to iamkatia [2005-01-18 03:11:32 +0000 UTC]

heehee...I'm the kid who was physically unable to spin around on bars... I'm the clumsy little kid that gets hurt all the time, but never really breaks a bone or anything...just a lot of scratches and bruises!

My name is Christina! So my name really doesn't start with a K but it's close enough!

I like your username! It'll sound cool because you have a pretty name, but my username won't sound good if it was iamchristina... But iamkatia sounds like one word...like it took me awhile to figure out that the words were separate: i am katia. Oh yeah, not only am I clumsy, I'm mentally slower!

"in my mind i can fly"

as a child i fell off the monkey bars doing something similar. i landed on my neck, my neck curved into my sternum and the result of it was a chipped vertabrae in my spine. as a result i have had headaches and a loss of energy during certain periods of my life that required in a need for chiropractic work. we rarely if ever consider the affects of our actions as children might affect our lives as adults.

i like this katia.

aven, i wanted to bring you
a special photo but it's been
raining for THREE DAYS STRAIGHT!!
i am so bummed because i so badly wanted to
shoot the big MLK march today and holysuckhole
i cannot.

your little badda-boom song and kooky ambulance
guy cheered me though so thanks for
that, lover.

avenescent In reply to iamkatia [2005-01-18 05:20:01 +0000 UTC]

the last winter i spent in seattle there was a record number of straight days of rain...something like 162 or 172. two of those days were snow/rain mixed. i remember biking up capital hill to get to 15th so i could get to work at rainbow grocery. my tires were spinning in the snow and it was a good work-out.

no worries, we have time. what i really want to see is the pink blossoms on the trees atop capital hill in the spring. i remember standing spellbound and gazing at rainier through the pink flowers as they took to the wind.

love you,
a.

what a wonderful visual of you peddling up the hill-
huff huff huff - to get to work.
i wish i knew you then. the rainbow
grocery is about an 8 minute walk
from where i live.

the cherry and plum blossoms?

i will think of you when i see
them start to bloom.

i will think of you
as the beautiful pink
bloom that you are.

i will bring you pink blossoms.
i will shower you in blossoms.
i will bury you in blossoms.

anything
everything

for
you.

iamkatia In reply to manwe [2005-01-17 20:43:16 +0000 UTC]

no, no pain. the kids always put
their hands down in time. *whew*
my siblings and i used to play similar
games on the couch - standing on one arm
and falling toward the sofa while keeping your
arms perfectly straight by your sides. i could never
keep them there at the end though. even though
it was a cushy couch and no harm would come.
just those powerful primal self-protective instincts
kicking in would not allow it. hahaa... good times.

portugal! ohh, my beautiful friend (through my online journal)
filipe lives in portugal too! lisbon!
his journal is here:

[link]

his photos make me want to come there so badly.
but no money for travelling just now.
and i want to go to west africa first when
money allows. i study and play traditional maninka
drum rhythms and songs so i want to go live in the
heartland of those rhythms for a few months
when possible.

darkgod In reply to iamkatia [2005-01-18 02:16:54 +0000 UTC]

oooh... soo, into drum rhythms, hem?
I must say that I'm passionate by traditional drum rhythms
nowadays I just don't hang out with my old groupd, as I used too
aahh, those nights at the beach .... aaah... those where the times...

tell me when you'll go to west africa, I always wanted to go there,
maybe I'll go too

anyway, just checked Filipe's journal and, yeah, great photos there
lisbon is beautiful, but Almada (from the south side of Tagus river) is
even MORE beautiful (no need to say that I'm from Almada )

what 'traditional drum rhythms' are you referring to?
there are so many.

almada, eh?
i need to get my butt to portugal.
i need to be a world traveller.
yup, that's it.
maybe i should take my mama's advice
and marry a rich man.. hahaa...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

darkgod In reply to iamkatia [2005-01-18 03:00:21 +0000 UTC]

I don't play at the moment,
I just don't have time to hang out at the beach anymore :/

I used to play djambe drums.. do you know what is it?
there is no specific type of rhythm we played,
we just played almost everything .. only for fun...
those where the days..

oh, and yeah, you SHOULD get you butt to Portugal,
I don't know about Seattle, but here you would love to stay
about marry a rich guy, ....

anyway, I do know how you feel,
I also *NEED* to be a world traveller.
I love to get to know new cultures and I just can't
stop thinking on that.

Africa is at the top of my list, like Jamaica,
Amazonia, Australia, ... err... the list goes on and on...
damn, I *DO* need to mary a rich girl

iamkatia In reply to darkgod [2005-01-18 03:09:29 +0000 UTC]

maninka rhythms we play - yes!

hahaa.. i love your reaction to my
marrying a rich man.. made me laugh!

joel, you are waaaaay too sweet to be
'the god of darkness' hahaaa.. i'm sorry,
but it's true.
