I'm always in awe of your work. You always seem to capture that one moment that seems unattainable. Each piece is so alive. It's obvious they aren't choreographed, so obtaining pictures like these is all about imperfection. If you had spent the time twiddling and moving, you moment would be gone. And it's the moment that makes the piece, not the exposure speed(although it can help).

For such restrictions on this picture, it turned out beautifully.

Nice! I love that his shadow looks like a hole torn in the ground.

I love this still picture.
...and I need to write better critiques now, 'cause I friended at least three photographers. What do you look for in a picture?

frankly, i think your position/exposure combo and your decision NOT to use flash was the right one.
change position? yea, right. like this sort of thing is choreographed by the photographer.
use a flash? i'm sure you carry all your camera gear with you wherever you go.
it's not a damn studio or set-up shot, it's LIFE.
you saw it, you shot it, simple as that.
your experiences have taught you to make exposure and position decisions effeciently, quickly and correctly.
you're a pro.

hmm I can think of rising the speed of exposure a lot to achieve more detail

nice shot. if you're using CS2,are you familiar with the shawdow/highlights adjustment? it's an amazing tool for adjusting those almost-but-not-quite blown out areas (or blocked-up shadow areas) without affecting the overall tonality.

awesome picture... you know what would be even better? the same picture with the full crescent at the top of that stick (or whatever it is) and the complete shadow...

i like it with half the shadow... imagination and logic can finish the rest of the shadow. its a great picture as is.

filters to darken the exposure is all i could think of.
that, or an expensive camera that shoots at 3200 ASA

hey the moment you stop believing in santa, you stop getting gifts from him. so it's beneficial for both of us!
