as some of you may know, june is gay and lesbian pride month. it is named so because today, june 27, is the anniversary of the stonewall rebellion. at the stonewall inn, a gay bar in new york city’s greenwhich village, beverage control board agents and police officers raided the bar, harassed the patrons, and arrested many people without just cause, claiming to enforce a rarely implemented alcohol control law. this was commonplace, but on the night of june 27, angry gay women and men fought back for the first time and won supporters in the form of outraged protesters. this came to be known as the stonewall rebellion, and brought civil rights of lesbians and gays to the political floor.

i myself am not gay, but i have many friends of all ages who are. this piece is for all of them because they’re some of the best chaps i know. i love you guys!

the idea for this came from a first-time commenter on my redone rainbow brite piece, who said she looked like sailor gay pride. as such, here she is! i couldn’t be more proud of this piece! this has to be the single best photoshop coloring job i’ve ever done, partially because i tried a number of new techniques. the seven-pointed star is in the border because it’s on her diadem and brooch, but those are so tiny you can hardly see it there. i tried to model the style of costume more after the sailor moon manga, largely because i think the anime sucks royally, but enough about that.
