were it says start, that square, that would be were the scene would be originally and then the next square, the larger one, that would be kind of like the ended of a zoom out?

Yeah, thats the idea. but when moving in or out we call that a TRUCK OUT or TRUCK IN and when we move side to side we call that a PAN. Zoom in or out is a live action term.
