The dark machine known as Shadowbolt was an experimental fighting automaton that dates back to the early years of Teridax’s rule over the Brotherhood. Shadowbolt was a very deadly construct; a multi-purpose combatant that could learn, adapt, and ultimately kill with brutal efficiency. However, the machine never came to be fully used during Teridax’s reign, simply because of the amount of energy it required to operate. Thus, it was deactivated, put in a storage room beneath Destral, forgotten, and destined to collect dust. Of course, the reign of Icarax changed all that. Rediscovering Shadowbolt, Icarax revived the automaton, finding much potential in the machine. Calling upon his top engineers, he had it reconstructed and upgraded into a more powerful and deadly form. The energy problem was solved by a revolutionary crystal core that naturally produced more energy by recycling used one. Thus, Shadowbolt had returned, bigger and badder. Of course, theories were just theories, and Lord Icarax wanted to truly test it in the field. During the hunt for the Toa, the Makuta assigned Shadowbolt to track down and eliminate a Toa team consisting of nine Toa (earth, plasma, lighting, jungle, ice, psionics, iron, gravity, & water were their elements). They were found in the ruins of Ta-Metru, in the remains of the Great Furnace. Shadowbolt found them in less than a day (due to its elemental radar) and landed right in the middle of the nine Toa. Normally a single enemy wouldn’t stand a chance against these nine heroes, but Shadowbolt, with ferocity and competence that surprised even Lord Icarax, killed the once noble beings. It was because of that feat that the Makuta regards Shadowbolt as one of the finest weapons to ever come to fruition. The machine is still as deadly as ever, hunting the Resistance with the cold efficiency only a machine is capable of.

Personality: If this machine had a personality, it would be ruthless, indifferent, and vicious. Being a creation made solely for the purpose of destruction and combat, Shadowbolt has no care or sympathy whatsoever. As well as being an assassin and marauder, the automaton is also a bodyguard of sorts for Lord Icarax. When not hunting, it is often beside the Makuta, ever watchful for intruders. The second its master is attacked Shadowbolt will suppress, cripple, and kill the would-be combatant quickly and without hesitation. Due to its function it is single-minded in its goal, never tiring or faltering. In short, it is the perfect killing machine.

Weapons/Abilities: Shadowbolt possess a range of weapons and abilities. In truth, Shadowbolt is a weapon in and of itself. Although capable of blasting foes from range, it will often gore its opponents with its claws or strike fatal concussive blows with strength that’s on par with Lord Icarax’s.
- Blades: Shadowbolt has a dervish of blades on its shoulders, which it uses to charge into and impale foes
- Razor Claws: The machine’s hands are claws with protosteel hooks. It can punch, grab, and maim with these.
- Weapon Arm: Shaowbolt’s left arm has been modified to be able to turn into either:
1) a Protosteel sword much like Malinia’s (of course, the power and accuracy behind it is increased by tenfold)
or
2) a Plasma Burst Repeater Gun that is capable of blasting through most forms of armoring and tearing through its foes
- Reflexes: Being a fighting machine, Shadowbolt has lightning fast reflexes and speed, capable of overwhelming its foes with swift and potent strikes
- Radar: An upgrade gives the robot the ability to scan for its prey on a variety of radars, ensuring nothing can hide from it
