My first wire sculpture!
It's supposed to be a larger bird whose "ribcage" is the cage for the smaller bird. I kinda wish I'd done the ribcage better, since it's pretty hard to see the little bird. Hrrmm. But other than that I like how this came out.
The larger bird is some kind of cross between a flamingo, a peacock and a phoenix. xD
URGHH the internet disconnects every time I try to upload an image. This is beyond frustrating. Dx
The sculpture is about 18 inches long, just to give you a general idea of size.
The first picture was taken in front of my window, which has a lovely view of Providence. I've seen so many pretty sunsets there.
The largest black wire is iron, I think? But I'm not sure... At any rate, I do not like it, and it left gross black metally stuff on my hands.
The smaller wires are brass and copper.

wow, I can only imagine how much time it took for you to do this... You hands must have really hurt after bending it all into shape. I know mine would/have. I tried to make a jewelry tree with wire... yeah FAIL! hugely, but it was a good experience and maybe next time I'll do a bird or something like this.

Oh I love this! It is a little hard to see the small bird but it was your first attempt at wire sculpture, no one expects perfect execution on the first try! It is a really cool idea and I think you did very wee the top left hand corner is the best representation of it I think.

We did sculptures at school... god I hated working with wire, but now I must admit, I miss it... xD

Did you start with the rib cage or the bird around it? Maybe if you have started with a bigger rib cage the concept would have come across better.

it would have been sweet if you'd made the rib cage the size of like, a usual bird cage or bought a bird cage and then worked around it. Critiquing is kind of a part of me now. ugh. D:

YESSS it would've! I was afraid to make the bigger bird TOO big because it took forever even at the size it was. Perhaps I should've made the smaller bird smaller... HMMM.

did you have to do a bunch of different colors of wire? You could of done simple outlines with really thick wire that matched the bird cage and then done the smaller bird really colorful. idk

HMMM YES. The smaller bird has purple and gold, but I didn't have enough purple or other colors. BUT that would've been cool. :0

oh my gosh that is beautiful, my mom has tons of wire for beading jewelry, but I've never gone as in dept as this to make a wire sculpture. We did a small section in class about it and I came out with this: [link]
