Description Would Vitani stop teasing and bickering with Nuka if he looked more ‘normal’? Hell no! xD He’s still the same guy. Only now with long, tight curls. Very fun (and probably painful… for him ) to mess with.

Background is a sketch based on a background from the movie.

Nuka deserves more love. At least Kovu defended Nuka when Zira berated him for leaving Kovu on his own. How many little brothers can do that?

Absolutely! Nuka is one of my favorite characters. He spent his whole short life trying to earn love, but only got that small display of affection when he was dying. It's a touching, but extremely depressing story.

Oh yeah, Kovu tried to defend him. That just shows how dysfunctional their family is, when a younger brother, still a kid, has to protect his older brother from their own mother's wrath. But not so long ago I realized that we can't tell if Kovu always tried to stick up for Nuka, or just that one time. See, in that particular situation, Nuka was supposed to watch Kovu, but didn't (because he was busy catching mice for Zira instead, trying to be useful) and because of that, Kovu had the opportunity to sneak away and ended up near the Pridelands, where he met Kiara, was almost killed, and then was almost killed again for all he knows. You can only imagine what kind of punishment Zira would give to Nuka for letting that happen. So Kovu, who is more liked by his mother and also younger, takes the blame, therefore saving Nuka from being badly harmed. It was still very brave of Kovu to do this, but it was also not the regular kind of failure on Nuka's part, so I think Kovu was genuinely scared of what might happen to Nuka this time...

You're probably right. We have no idea how Nuka and Kovu's relationship went before the events of Simba's Pride. As for me, I did an alternate ending where Nuka comes back after the events of Simba's Pride due to a cosmic fluke. Would you like the link?

It’s true, we don’t know enough about their relationship to make clear conclusions. It could be that Kovu was always supportive and caring towards Nuka despite his bitterness, but it also could be that Kovu simply ignored him, or even felt embarrassed of being his brother like The Lion Guard suggests. We can only say that when Nuka was in real danger, Kovu tried to save him, but also was inconsiderate enough to sneak off, putting Nuka in a bad situation with Zira.

As for Nuka, I guess it was only a question of how deep his bitterness went. Some of it was clearly misplaced (it was not Kovu’s fault he was chosen by Scar and got more attention for that reason), but some was completely legitimate (complaining about Kovu when he went off to the Pridelands and therefore was making his life difficult). Nuka and Vitani seemed to be fairly close (even though she often dismissed him), but I doubt the same can be said about Nuka and Kovu…

Yes, I would be interested to read it/look at it

I guess it's not completely Nuka's fault that Zira was such a bad mother. If anyone deserves the blame in that family, it's her. She's the one who treated Kovu like a weapon for revenge and treated Nuka like the second-favorite. I still love Kovu. I'd forgotten all about him before seeing Lion King II: Simba's Pride again. And I also forgot that Jason Marsden voiced him.

That’s true, pretty much every bad thing that happened in that family can be traced back to Zira, especially after Scar’s death. Let’s say she wanted to honor Scar’s wish and had Kovu as the “chosen one”, okay. But she didn’t have to mistreat Nuka that badly, she had abused him physically, emotionally and also neglected him and humiliated him in front of their entire pride. If she had been a loving mother to him, he wouldn’t have been so bitter towards Kovu. Nuka wasn’t really the second-favorite (that place belonged to Vitani), he was “the unfavorite”, the scapegoat in his family. It’s not that he was given less love – he wasn’t given any love, and that was what led to his death.

Yeah, Kovu is an interesting character, it’s possible to write a whole meta about him, flaws and good sides and all, I like characters like this I love all the new characters from TLK2, they’re so well-written! I also didn’t remember much of that movie until I rewatched it as an adult, and the same with pretty much any other Disney movie I watched as a kid, lol xD

Gotcha. I've written several alternate endings to Lion King II: Simba's Pride where funny and interesting things happen. Don't get me wrong; I did enjoy the original ending, but I just wanted to experiment. Would you like the links? And maybe I could get some comments on them too?

Yeah, you can send the links, but I can't guarantee comments. English is not my first language, so even if I have some thoughts, I can't always put them into words xD;

It's all right. Something's wrong with DA and it's being a little slow on my end. But I'll get to you soon.

I love the idea of Nuka with a curly mane, and the idea that Vitani would take to teasing him about it. As always, the colors in your picture are vibrant, the characters are expressive and beautiful, I really enjoy looking at your artwork.

Thank you! I can only imagine healthy Nuka with curly hair, especially since it looked curly in at least one scene in the movie, where it looked kinda softer. I'll probably draw more for this series of drawings later

Thank you! I think his mane would have been curly when clean, because it looked curly in some scenes in the movie where it looked softer/less matted xD
