Description An attempt at telling a story without any words at all.

Spoilers:  When I was young, my brother and I would often play games of strategy.  Chess, Checkers, Stratego, Risk, etc.  I never won.  Occasionally I'd get upset about it.  When I got older though, I began to realize that it wasn't because I was inherently a failure, it was because he was just that good.

the sad part is all who a play with Tia a let her win but luna her she fight in this with no fear and want to win, not to let her sister win, this why befor the luna return, is boring to play with other pony but luna not and she play as her full skill! well even luna dont win, she can play with her long time befor lose the game!

hi hi

After spending some time using google, I think perhaps I now understand what you're talking about.  But hopefully it is clear that this is just a comic about Luna playing a game.

Even coming in a split second behind first place can be pretty rough sometimes.

Did I ever win at Stratego? I think I'm not very good at strategy games because I lack focus.

hi hi

I can't remember if we every played Stratego.  I remember the board got pulled out once or twice, but I don't remember being your opponent.  It have been that you were just really little at the time and nobody took it seriously.

hi hi

I'm glad to hear it.  I picked at it here and there over months and months, occasionally thinking that I should just leave it unfinished, but I think it was all worth it in the end.

HOLY CRAP YOU SHOW THEM PLAYING GO?!

+1 point for showing the pieces on the intersections
+1 point showing a real board size (9x9)
-1 for non-realistic piece arrangements
-1 for checkered board
+100000000000000000000 FOR SHOWING PONIES PLAYING GO!

hi hi

I wish that had been my intention, cause a hundred quintillion points is pretty high praise.  Unfortunately, it's supposed to be a game that is unique to the world they live in, residing possibly somewhere between chess and go.  Where you lay down pieces like go, but capture your opponent's like chess.

Visually, the number of pieces of each color remaining on the board is supposed to represent how well each player is doing.  So that when Luna has only one piece left, and Celestia still has a few, it should indicate how she lost.  Where as in the flashbacks, when Celestia has a board full of pieces to her opponent's one, it is supposed to indicate how she was given no real challenge.

Oh.  That wasn't obvious to me.
I still like it, and appreciate making a new game for the other world.

hi hi

I was trying to mess around with different kinds of panel layouts and ways of conveying information without text, but I suppose it has left parts of the comic a jumbled mess.  Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
