Her fingertips skimmed against his forehead, brushing away his chocolate brown locks which had fallen over his closed eyes. With a feather-light touch, she pushed aside his fringe, letting them frame his sleeping face in their usual manner.

An inaudible sigh left her lips as she took in his serene features, leaning back into the hard wooden chair. Oh, how peaceful he looked while he was asleep. It was as if the burdens and responsibilities placed upon him had been lifted from his shoulders, the heaviness in his heart disappearing as he lay there before her. Her sight fell upon his closed eyes, dark lashes brushing against his cheeks as he remained in slumber, hiding his green hues away from her. She had always loved his eyes - that special shade of emerald bearing a slight undertone of blue.

A tiny smile adorned her face as she thought of the way his eyes would reflect the passion he always seemed to emit. That determination and strength that shone through whenever he talked about his dreams and aspirations; that stubborn look whenever he’d roll his eyes at something Jean said.

Most of all, she loved the soft expression that he reserved just for her. The swirl of affection in his eyes as his temper faded, only to show a more shy and tender side of him.

“…[Name]?” A groggy voice snapped her back into reality.

“Eren! You’re awake!” Relief seeped through her words as her face lit up. “Don’t get up yet. Hanji said that you might still be weak after transforming.”

Letting the [h/c] haired girl pull the covers over him once more, he lay back down onto the pillow, his gaze still glued onto her visage. “What happened? I remember Annie… she was in that crystal…”

“She’s still crystallized, and it seems impossible to break through the crystal. They’ve got her secured in a prison cell somewhere.”

She paused momentarily, before she continued busying herself with his sheets.

There is a colossal titan in the Wall.

The Walls may possibly be filled with Titans.

The words were threatening to spill out, but she held her tongue. Why trouble him with problems when he should be resting? Besides, it would not do any good even if he knew what was going on. The truth could wait. “Everything is under control, Eren. For now, just focus on gaining your strength back.”

He knew she was hiding something from him, but he chose not to point it out. After all, he trusted [Name], and he knew that she must have had her own reasons from keeping things from him.

Concern grew in Eren’s chest as he took in her exhausted look. Dark circles ringed around her tired eyes, and her hair seemed to have lost its usual silky sheen. “[Name]… Are you alright?”

For a moment, she stared blankly at him before painting a smile on her visage. “Of course I’m alright!”

He so sorely wanted to tell her, ‘You’re lying…’. Instead he yanked on her hand, causing a gasp to leave her lips as she fell onto the small bed. Bringing her under the covers, he brought her into his embrace, holding her close to his chest. “Even if you’re alright, you look like you could use some sleep.”

“Eren…”

Her protests were cut off by a soft kiss on the lips. “Just go to sleep, [Name]. You look like you could do with some rest too.”

Tucking her head under his chin, Eren was quick to fall back to sleep. And listening to the steady beating of his heart, she let the soothing beat lull her to sleep, letting reality finally slip out of her thoughts.
