When I was younger I read The Dark Is Rising and The Chronicles of Narnia--those two series became the foundation of how I view magic. They affected me very deeply, because I was so young.
Did you see the movie they made? It was called The Seeker: The Dark is Rising. I HAD to see it, of course, and I was horribly disappointed! If you haven't seen it, don't!

Yes I saw it in the movies when it came out....
for me the movie was only a free interpretation, and not the real story as I view it either...
But I am used to movies based on books I love to be only the one person who makes it's interpretation.
They rarely fit my own view..

I agree--the movies rarely completely fit my view, but usually there's something I can be pleased with. And actually, I ADORED the new The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe movie. I thought it was wonderful.
The thing is, that Dark is Rising movie--if I'd never read the book, I'd still have thought it was a bad movie. That makes me sad, because maybe there are people who saw it and thought, wow, that was really bad, I'm not going to read the book! You know?

ahh yes that is true...
They would miss something great
I thought The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe was okay, there where some things that where incredibly made, but there's just some atmosphere in the book that cant be translated... The movie was good enough for me to cry when Aslan walked to the altar to be sacrificed though... that scene has always been so strong to me... so they did quite well after all
