nikon d40 and just the lens kit it came with i'm quite clueless about the mechanics of photography, so i keep it simple

haha, makes two of us then. I have a Sony a200, and I still only have the lens kit that came with.. Maybe I'll learn something someday, and buy a more advanced lense

those are my thoughts, too. i've progressed from point-and-shoot mode but i have a ways to go. i looked up your camera and i like the look of it. one day i'd love to get a macro lens.

Yea, me to want to get a macro lens. I only have macro mode on my digital camera.. A canon Ixus something.. But the quality on the pictures taken with that is poor..

i had pretty good macro on my old, horrible, horrible olympus. 50mm is sufficient for now, but maybe not in the future.
