This is absolutely gorgeous. You have a very unique use of stock. There is no 'digital' feel to this at all.

Quite fascinating really, the little intricaciesβ constituting the stocky build. It's cool to examine and to pick at visually.

Wow this is really different from your usual style, and it looks like it must have taken a really long time. Kudos! I really like the mechanical wings, I've been trying for a while to design that looked half decent and yours are very interesting!

Yeah, I usually don't do computer stuff, let alone photomanipulation. I only used photoshop at school mostly for editting texture for animation. I never had photoshop on my computer but I got the Gimp and I'm starting to get used to it.
I did it all yesterday evening from 10pm to 2am. Right after I found the contest. It would of taken a lot longer if I tried to draw it.
The wings are [link] scaled and skewed into metal feathers, duplicated 9 times (per wing) rotate on the same pivot then scale and skew each feather a bit more to create diversity and perspective. If I wanted to do the entire wing in metal feathers it'd be more duplicating and overlapping but I didn't want to spend the time so I finished it with wire, bolt and wheel stock. If I even have the time I may try to do another metal wing pic.
