Description This is actually a photomanip of a photograph, but the category options have been changed so much that I didn't know what other category to put this in of demented do0m. Anyway, it's me from seven years ago in rural Indiana with a Ruger AC-556. I probably lo0k like I'm stalking lo0ters, zombies, or escaped criminals from the prison over in Terre Haute.

Viva la Vigilantismo!

If it was in color and non-Photoshopt, you could tell the difference. The Ruger AC-556 has an open-top receiver.

AC556s are neat, even if i dont really like mini-14s lol

Also, Ruger should have made it STANAG-compatible.

i thought there was an insert for the mini-14 magwell to make it accept m16 clips

Maybe there is, but I wasn't aware of it. If so, then pwn! XD

lol most assault rifles have inserts to make em stanag, not all are licensed, most are third party companies that make em.

Yeah, there are some disadvantages to the open-top receiver. But one advantage is it's easy to clear jams.

The AC556 doesn't have a folding stock, that's the AC556F and Ruger Mini-14 / GB-F, I thought you'd know that Iggy. Of course, I may just be remembering things wrong, I can't really think at the moment.

Ruger AC-556? Ain't that the full-auto Mini-14? How'd you get your hands on one of those?

IggyHazard In reply to Nolo84 [2007-08-18 01:22:44 +0000 UTC]

I have a friend who has a Class 2 license. The AC-556 is his. I used to have a Mini-14 in pre-ban configuration, but I sold it. Currently, I have a Carbon 15 and an M-1 Carbine (with modern w0od stock, metal handguard, and adjustable rear sight). M-1 Carbines with original w0od furniture are expensive these days.

I see. Ha, yeah the little bastards will empty your wallet in a heartbeat. I love them, though. One of the best and most unique firearms ever made.
Isn't a Carbon-15 a .223 pistol?

There's a pistol version, but mine is the rifle.

Nolo84 In reply to IggyHazard [2007-08-21 02:54:54 +0000 UTC]

I see. Is that a direct gas-impingement weapon or does it have a piston?

Huh. Didn't know Carbons were piston guns. Good to know.

With the pistol versions, you can tell by the projection on the back where the stock would ordinarily be. Olympic Arms OA-98 pistols have gas impingement. You can tell by the lack of that telltale projection characteristic of most AR-type pistols. My Carbon 15 is the rifle version of the Type 97. There's an improved version with a Picatinny rail that runs from the receiver all the way down the forearm. I've sometimes thought of putting a gas block on it so I could get some iron sights for it, but the rail on a gas block isn't lined up with the receiver rail, so that wouldn't work (unless I'm mistakified).

Alright! A Ruger AC556! My dad has a Mini-14, which he says is his favorite out of all the guns that he has.

You look alot like Chris Redfield from Resident Evil!

Thanks! I used to have a Mini-14 (the AC556 isn't mine). It was a pre-ban with an original w0od handguard. I prefer the plastic handguard since it covers more of the bolt.

Pre-ban... I still don't know the definition of pre-ban. My dad was given the opportunity to buy a Ruger specialty pack that included a Mini-14 pistol-grip and folding-stock (much like the one used for the AC556) along with a scope, and as an added bonus, he would've gotten a Ruger P93 with an extra clip... Unfortunately, he turned that offer down.

From what it seemed like, Sturm-Ruger was my dad's favorite commercial brand of firearms. His first gun was a Ruger Mk.II target-handgun (which he eventually sold), and like I mentioned before, he's got a Mini-14, and he has a customized 10/22 self-loader, outfitted with a scope and a folding-stock, and he's got a bunch of high-capacity magazines for them.

IggyHazard In reply to GangsterLovin [2007-06-13 22:39:19 +0000 UTC]

Pre-ban means pre-1994, before the oppressive Clintonian gun ban that attempted to criminalize certain features of certain firearms. This is where we get illogical nomenclature like "conspicuously protruding vertical pistol grip" and whatnot.
