Well, personally I see this work unbelievable beautiful, how she stares at some light point, and how the light goes trough her and reaches the background somehow. I love it the way it is, but you asked for it. Her skin is perfect, just a little bit more job in her lips and then the hair bright. Clothes are amazing, as are the earrings. and well, that's all you'll get from me.

I love this, just for you to know.

Go ahead and enter it. It's totally awesome.
The only objections I could pose have to do with the digital post-processing of the image, it could have used a desaturation and level correction, but your drawing totally rocks. Congratulations.

What do you mean by digital post-processing desaturation and level correction?

ArielRGH In reply to Igorxxx70 [2010-07-14 19:21:36 +0000 UTC]

Right after you scan it, you take Photoshop or the GIMP and crop it to the desired size, then apply the desaturation function to get rid of the colours, and then apply level correction ("Levels...") to adjust the darkest tone in your drawing to black and the lightest tone to white, and if you want you can also play a bit with the contrast of the medium tones.

This is not really cheating. This is more like compensating for the defect introduced when scanning a drawing.

Thanks. I know my scanner is bad. The drawings always look better to me than the scan. I thought it was just the quality of my scanner. However, I will use the original drawing at the exhibit.

Hi,
I am really impressed with this piece. The skin is beautiful. If I had to say anything it would be to work on the contrast and detail on the blouse.

Not really? It's very good! Hair, eyes, perspective, dark darks. The rest is just your own "style"?

Okay thanks. I am letting it "age". I keep looking back at it from time to time hoping to get a new perspective. I think one of my problems is that I lack enough patience.

I know what you mean! I am convinced my BEST work could be done today, IF I had the patience to finish it strong!?

I am trying to let my work "age". Go back and look at it after a period of time. I am never completely satisfied with any of them. I think the more you learn the easier it is to see your mistakes. You can never get them to 100% to your liking; I think that is the good thing about getting someone else to criticize your work. You may not always agree with them but it gives you something to think about. My wife understands the structure of art better than I do but I sometimes get pissed off at her.
