WVP #1: The Phone Call
It was 4am and the sun was down, Marcus was thinking about the WVP he had signed up for, he laid down staring at the ceiling of his unreasonably flashy apartment thinking. A while ago, Marcus thought it would be a good idea to sign up for it, there was an option for a partner, he didn’t really want another Vasteuro, he had Peanut, they were a duo. He had wanted to rescue a horse for awhile and take care of it but he never actually had the means to, which made this the perfect opportunity.
Marcus had gotten in his car and drove off to Frost Wood Ranch, where he was boarding Peanut; he had arrived and he talked to the manager of the stable and he thought it was a good idea, so he paired Marcus up with a country bumpkin. Marcus wasn’t too pleased about it but he let it go, he wished to be paired up with someone more… classy. They sent in their application, Marcus haven’t even meeting the kid he was paired up with, and that leads back into the present.
Marcus was still thinking, until he heard a phone call, it was the manager of FWR and he had stated that he got the results in the mail and that they were accepted, the horse they got assigned to was the stallion of the herd. “I arranged for him to arrive at FWR next week, I’ll send over the photo of him, they said he looked like a pirate, y’know, cause’ he has a tear in his ear.” All Marcus could think about was what to do next but he was afraid once the horse showed up he wouldn’t be up to the challenge.
Time went by quickly, and the day of arrival was finally here, Marcus didn’t sleep the entire week because of how anxious he was so, he is a little.. snappy. He got out of his car and he was surprised to see that the trailer carrying the horse was not only already there, but it was opened with the bumpkin he was partnered with, *what was his name again that he said… Miko, Mika, no… what was it, ah! Oh never mind I don’t got it* he scrambled his brain as he walked over; tired, he then grabbed peanuts old spare halter and stood there, leaning on the side of the trailer holding the halter before he finally decided to stand normally. The country bumpkin was too busy trying to keep the horse calm he completely ignored Marcus’s existence.
“Hey, country bumpkin, why are you taking so long-?” Marcus snorted
The bumpkin turned to look at him finally and stated, while keeping the horse calm, politely, “My name is Milo…”
The manager walked over and glared at Marcus; “Well what’s got you in such a bad mood? Keep it up and people will think you’ll *actually* bite!” He paused, “I’ll be going now, my wife will be quite angry, I didn’t go home at all last night… good luck! I know you can do it!!”
“Mn” was all Marcus responded with, Milo nodded his head.
“Well…that’s not going to work“ Marcus said.
“Why not?” Milo said in a very polite tone, Marcus didn’t like it one bit, he couldn’t tell if this kid was genuine or just putting on a façade. At least when he said something stupid to others they’d respond back with something rude. “Tch, how annoying-“ he mumbled.
Marcus flashed back into reality, looking at the injured horse’s cute face, it wasn’t his fault, and he figured to at least try getting along with Milo, he might not be that nice, but Marcus is an experienced trainer. Horse’s heal the soul, Marcus always had a soft spot for animals. He sighed, “The way you’re doing it, it’s all wrong-“
Milo’s ears pinned and moved, “then what am I supposed to do…-“
*at least I know he’s listening*, Marcus thought.
“It might work on other horses, however he isn’t exactly domesticated, and considering he’s a lead stallion, trying to reach out to a horse whose main job was to protect, he could be aggressive and it’d just make it worse… besides, look at him, he looks traumatized by the trailer ride.” Marcus stopped and pointed, “Look, he even has some tiny cuts and scratches on his face that weren’t on his photo in the newspaper. This means he bumped around in the trailer on purpose to try and get out at any means, it’s better to be safe than sorry.” Marcus states
Milo’s ears softened and relaxed, he took in the criticism, still silently waiting for instructions on what to do.
Marcus continued, “slowly reach out your hand for him to sniff and wait, I’ll hand you the halter once you do, then we can take him out into the pasture, don’t keep him stalled it’ll reignite the fear of small cramped boxes like the trailer.
The horse ended up being violent at first, but calmed down when the two people assigned to him calmed down, he is a sweet horse who has a loving personality, it just needs time.
