Description we wear masks for many reasons that we can not count... but all we do is prisoning ourselves in those masks... After a while they own us... we are not what we are anymore, we are them...

no photo manip... i made him hold a portrait of himself to his face... what makes it a little awkward is that the angle on the picture he holds is from top... well, it is hard to explain ... how many masks do you wear?

indeed you tease the mind to orgasmic proportions & intoxicate the soul with your visual reflections of what we dare not see in ourselves!! Again, I thank you!!!

Great concept... I would love to see this pic with no light in the background. When I wear masks and I am prisoned, I get lost in dark.

P.S.: I love you and miss you terribly! And I am so proud that I will start crying soon... Enough drama for now...

this is exciting. not this piece by itself, so much, but all of your recent work together. this piece just further solidifies my idea that you truly have developed your own unique style and are making your way (if you're not there already) but a standout. i was reading a few photography magazines last night and thinking how there's not much on DA that looks like the stuff in these magazines. it seems like a lot of the popular work on DA is all the same. just look at what the usual daily favorites are. they're usually pretty similar. but your work stands apart. the favorites are beginning to bore me, but everyday i eagerly check to see if you've submitted anything new. and pieces like this one are what i wait for. this is so unique. the photo he's holding is so strong and captivating. those eyes... ahh, your details are wonderful! the angle of that portrait, the way it's held, the clothing he wears, and i could go on and on. the background, too, is excellent. and best of all.... it has meaning!! we wear SO many masks. simple ones on the surface that aren't always convincing to cover little things, and then big, complex ones deeper down that are nothing short of believable to gaurd our darker side and the secrets it holds. you described things so well. it's amazing, the freedom that comes with shedding those. the freedom granted by openness and honesty. the masks are cowardice. shedding them is an act of courage and maybe even a struggle, but it's results are worth the difficulties. i'd better cut myself off now, i could go for a while on this, it's pretty dear to me. GREAT WORK!!!!!!!

why don't they have something stronger than "like deviation" as a choice of vote? that's kind of silly.

not sure if i'll have anything to add that hasn't been said already, but this is beautiful. simply as an image it's outstanding, the composition is great, the repitition of the bars is perfect. i see what you mean about the shift in the angle between the mask and the subject, it kind of puts the viewer on edge a little. the idea of a mask and all that they represent (or hide) is very intiguing. i don't know if you're familiar with ralph eugene meatyard's work, but he has created some amazing photographs, and uses masks a lot in them. just a thought. anyway, this is wonderful. i am in awe of your work.

Words cannot describe how amazing this is. And the description is so true! There are far too few people in this world who live without masks. But they are the only ones that are truly alive.

Thanks so much!

The problem is that sooner or later you realize that the mask is part of you... And even if want to, you can't take it off because you did all your life with the mask on.

A strange vision that remind us to be ourselves and not to be manipulated by others.

The photograph you're holding is fucking great; it's actually better than the image as a whole. Nice work!

Another great concept! you surprise me time after time! Love the references to detention. The bars, the striped shirt, wonderful!
I'm curious about the reflection in the eyes. What is it? Or isn't it something specific?

I love your creativity!

Another amazing idea, your head must be full of them and so perfectly done also. The striped top is an excellent touch.

HOLY MOLY!!! This is so amazing! I came over here to thank you for the comment and and I was struck by this incredible image..... WOW! is all I can say.

I love the difference in angle of the photo he's holding, I think it enhances the mask theme even more. I love the feeling of being imprisoned and the top he is wearing is perfect.

Man, this really is something. I'm loving your work Ija and I have to This should be a DTF for sure.

Much love.

ps. I wear a lot of masks. So many that I don't know where my real face is anymore...
