Kal is the first of a new generation of Reploids to be based on a fictional character rather than an animal or mythical figure. Designed by childhood friends Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, Kal was based on the fictional hero they had collaborated to make for a comic book. I believe they called the hero Man of Steel, Action Ace, Last Son of Krypton, or something like that, but that's not the point. Kal has demonstrated many times of his pacifist nature similar to X. but unlike X, Kal is more than willing to use excessive force if he believes it is needed.

Kal has also been said to have a hidden potential similar to that of X or Zero. This, however, has only been seen as little more than an inside joke between Dr. Siegel and Dr. Shuster, who claimed that their proposed comic book hero was, "Faster than a speeding bullet train, more powerful than a Mechaniloid, able to leap over skyscrapers in a single bound!"

Superman! That's what they called their comic book hero! Light, I'm so stupid!
