Description Between September 1934 and February 1935, Fuso was once again in Kure Navy Yard for further modernization work. During this refit, her stern was lengthened by 25 feet (bringing her overall length to 698 feet, 8 inches) and her anti-torpedo bulges were heightened and widened. New ventilation cowls were installed on the sides of the barbettes for Turrets 2 and 5, and the 6-meter main rangefinder was replaced by an 8-meter model. The 2.8-meter and 3.5-meter rangefinders installed above the conning tower and on the aft superstructure were replaced with newer models, and small modifications were made to the RDF equipment and some of the platforms on the massive "pagoda" bridge tower. The forward-most searchlight platform was lowered so as to improve aircraft handling operations, the forward starboard pipe outlet on the funnel was replaced, improvements were made to the director setup on top of the aft superstructure, and finally further changes were made to the boat stowage layout.
