Before being mutated by the Hydrogen Bomb testings of 1954 and turning into a 45 meter tall monster, Godzilla started out as a much smaller animal. Godzilla originally started out as a member of a species of 7 meter long Stem-Tetrapods that adapted to life in the deep sea. Not much is known about how these creatures lived, hunted, or even reproduced but it is assumed that Godzilla's species were benthic ambush predators similar to the Deepsea Lizard fish or Bathysarus Ferox.

They likely remained motionless on the ocean floor waiting to consume anything that they meet, using their several tendrils and barbels to help detect potential prey. The armor they support on their backs is very similar to the carapaces of Lobsters and Crabs and are mostly likely used to defend themselves from other members of their kind. Currently it is unknown if more members of this species are still out there but it's a possibility that might worth looking into
