Description
The Legate-Class Galleon is a Fahreen-made cruiser designed to haul and defend large amounts of cargo. Unlike most transports it is designed to engage in, and withstand, combat to some degree. This makes it very popular among the former subjects of the Empire of Many Suns, where piracy has risen out of control (allegedly sponsored mainly by the Fahreen) since the fall of the Mogg'theran regime 200 years ago.
The Legate is more than 800-feet long, deceptively large for its armaments and even its viewports. This is because the Legate is designed for larger species, like the Fahreen, Sigmari, Arnuban and Rhtharians, who tower over humans anywhere from 8 to 11 feet tall. This is also why such a large ship is only armed about on par with a frigate. However, it has excellent sensors, surprising speed and is so heavily armored that ramming tactics are considered a viable option. It can also carry up to eight fighters for defense in addition to six shuttles or other smaller craft.
The Legate is the third-best selling ship in the Fahreen catalog, behind the Sundagger fighters, which they sell in bulk, and the Xiphos-Class Gunships (both shown escorting the Legate in this picture). The Rhtharians are the biggest buyers, followed by alien pirate and mercenary groups. Most buyers shed some of the cargo space to slap additional weapon systems. The Legate comes standard with two forward laser cannons, two heavy dual rotary flechette turrets and two anti-ship torpedo launchers.
