Excerpt from the Journal of Zan Holindai, Nix Lord Magus:
"Once we arrived at the Kuiper Belt surrounding the system that holds the planet Theseus, we were already on edge thanks to the prior knowledge that The League of Silence was on to our cargo and wanted it for themselves...
Well, everyone was in place aboard the Endeavor and when we noticed on our scanners the route The League were probably taking to ambush vessels, we decided to play them at their game. The ambush was set up, they were in our sights... everything was set up... and then we fired.
And all hell broke loose. Once they realized we were on to them, they did everything they could to try and prevent us from coming out of this alive, while still getting our precious cargo...
Unfortunate though, really... Unfortunate for them, that is. Thanks to us getting the jump on them. Our superior capabilities and a good amount of skill... The pirates didn't stand a chance.
I'm not going to lie, when the Captain ordered us to destroy the ship, once we had already disabled it, I felt a small shred of sympathy. Not for the pirates... but for those amongst the crew who had hearts and offered to spare the Pirate's lives, be it out of mercy or honor... or whatever.
Sometimes though... Mercy comes in the manner of a quick death to your adversary... and Honor comes in the manner of dying facing your enemies, rather than slowly drifting through space until your life support systems fail."

somehow I missed this. I wasn't sure if people understood that Masterson's order also contained a bit of mercy.

I thought the last statement would've summed that up: sometimes... Mercy comes in the manner of a quick death...
We all know Masterson isn't a cold blooded killer... He's fair. Hard, but fair.

yeah, it did. I wasn't sure until I read that whether people knew there was a bit of mercy to that as well.

Hi,
I've read somewhere that in these belts, you'd probably cross it without seeing much asteroids due to the extensive distance between one another. Advise you to confirm this info ...
nice picture anyway ...

They cluster around objects, usually. However this is a sci-fi piece in a make-believe star system with space pirates, so its for dramatic reasons that it's a dense "emipre strikes back" type field.

That part of your astronomy is still current. And yes, those were the bad guys.

I like the dwarf planet in the background, but it throws off my sense of proportion. It looks much nearer than is can be unless the ships are Zentraedi-scaled.

Its only a couple miles across. More planetoid than dwarf planet

Not since 2006. If it has enough gravity to become a ball, it's a dwarf planet. That went along with Pluto's demotion. Planets just have cleared their orbital paths of other objects, which is why Mercury's still the tiniest planet and Pluto's a dwarf now.
I like it, but it plays with my sense of scale a bit.

so Ceres is now a dwarf planet? sonovabitch...

Yep. If it's a sphere but has close neighbors, it's a dwarf planet. You should catch up on your Star Talk Radio. They talk about Neil's slaying of Pluto fairly often.

Sonofabitch. These wouldn't happen to be League of Silence ships, would they?

That's not the right way to answer, but it says something.
