Description Just an art study focusing on lighting and textures. I do these to make sure I have the basics down, because without the basics, the complex renders are doomed to fall apart. I think sometimes people don't realize how important it is to practice. So I do a lot of stuff like this, but I don't usually publish them. I really liked this one though, and thought I'd share it.

I'm really enjoying the aging morphs that Daz3d put out for V4 and M4. It's nice to be able to add subtle amounts of age so that every doesn't look like they're 20 years old. It's also nice that it's gradual and not overdone. I was trying to get that stately queen look while keeping the elven agelessness. You know she's seen some years, but you'd be hard-pressed to say how many.

I used a modified photographer's 3-point light setup here: A key light, a back light and instead of a fill light I used uberenvironment ambient lighting with the studio preset.
I also added a brushed metal shader to the armor textures and a chrome texture to the earrings and nosering, so that they could stand up to a close render.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Excellent. The only thing I dislike is the shadow of the nose ring, very strong.

How do you get the tattoo work on the face?

The tattoo came as part of a face texture I used. I just worked with it to give it more realism and the ability to withstand a closeup.

Yeah I've got to say, the bumps on the skin really make the piece. The other details are awesome, but its those little things that show someone approaching mastery - even when they are modest enough to deny such claims.

I couldn't agree more about lots and lots of practice renders, especially to fine tune lighting techniques and texturing. I absolutely love the textures used here. Most render engines like to take everything and give it the shininess of a plastic doll. You've clearly taken the time to tweak these out and go for maximum realism.

I really like the subtle bump/normal mapping that gives the skin and armor so much texture and depth. This is awesome.

Excellent. Right on all counts... very important to work on the basics and so many of us (myself especially) forget to keep brushed up on the simpler things.

The obvious technical skill aside you've also captured this one very artistically as well. The first thing I thought of looking at the Elven Queen was a lioness. I may rule, but I still have claws of my own...

I applaud your efforts
