Description As the wild counterpart of the dog, the wolf is more connected to nature and the wilds. Fiercely loyal to friends and family, it is a frightening animal to those they oppose.

Historically, bands of warriors that lived on the outside of the community protecting those within from harm, were associated with wolves. The MorrΓgan also takes on the form of a wolf during her battle with CΓΊ Chulainn in a river ford.

The Wolf will help you choose your "pack" wisely, and to defend those that you love. At the same time he can teach you independence as well.

Item is available as Silver and Gold pendant, (approx 31mm tall); [link]

Or on apparel items; [link]

We'll look into the deeper meaning of another fascinating Celtic creature later this week.

This is so beautiful! How do you pronounce the Gaelic? or is it phonetic?

I'm hopeless with the phonetic spelling; but it sounds close to "mock tear"

Love the simplistic design. Doesn't Mac Tire literally mean Son of the Country?

Illahie In reply to Cybopath [2010-01-06 11:00:21 +0000 UTC]

Son of the Country, or son of the earth But mac tΓre is a more 'modern' way of pronouncing it. Earlier days would have used faolchΓΊ as their way of saying wolf. I stuck with mac tΓre, since I think it's more poetic, and it ties in nicely with the warrior bands that lived on the outskirts

Interesting, I have a poor knowledge of Gaelic, which I think is terrible for a Scot. It just struck me that Mac (an) Tire would be similar to the name MacIntyre.

It would sound similar, but I've no idea if the Scots Gaelic word for wolf is similar to the Irish Gaelic version

Awesome! what is the pendant made of/attached to? Is ther a ring on it already?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Illahie In reply to DemonKitsuneOfNight [2008-11-21 15:15:55 +0000 UTC]

It is made of sterling silver, with a 18kt gold accent and the pendant hangs from a bail on the back. That way, you don't see a silly loop on the top. You can see how they hang here; [link] the dragonfly has a snake chain running through the bail.

This pendant, is it attachable to a necklace? (As you'd assume being called a 'endant' I'm tempted to buy one. I've been looking bloody EVERYWHERE for Celtic animal pendants. Deviant Art is brilliant, because you can find rare things you don't get anywhere else. Have you got a photo of any of them on an actual necklace I can look at possibly? They are all very beautiful, I wish I could get all of them haha!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Illahie In reply to Kirk-Hammett [2008-10-18 19:07:20 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the necklace can be fitted through a bail on the back of the pendants, and the bail allows for a fair range of necklaces, or even cord if you wish

If you click here; [link] you'll see the dragonfly pendant hanging from a snake chain.

Thanks for that mate! That gives me a better idea. Hopefully I'll be able to buy it. Christmas time is ridiculous, I have too many friends and family, but I can always ask someone to get it for me as a gift (I have everything really that I want at this age, so obscure things online are great). Hope to speak to you about it soon.
