Description So I've been playing Fallout New Vegas a lot lately (for about the 4th time). I really love this universe and everything in it and as a friend of mine has also been making fan-art for this world I figured that I also wanted to make something. So with that in mind I present to you Lovely, the super-mutant fashionista extraordinare! Just a random idea which came about through thinking about the eccentricities of super mutants. For the best view please zoom in.
I came up with her story while making the picture, they kind of evolved at the same time. I figure her as being a slightly addled super-mutant with a fragile grasp on reality. In my head she doesn't see herself as a hulking monstrosity, but still as the little girl with dreams of stardom. Enjoy the story, you kinda need to read it to appreciate the picture, sorry about its length:

"Ever since she was a little girl living in Vault 26, high in the Hollywood Hills, she’d had dreams of becoming a star. Not just a little one, like some B-grade television actor, but one of those great, once in a generation starlets destined to grace the silver screen, to dazzle all those who were granted the pleasure of seeing her.

All day, every day, she would sit in her little room reading through the Vault issue entertainment magazines, looking at pictures of graceful, beautiful models, all dressed in the height of pre-war fashion and envisioned herself as a grown-up, standing tall in her elegant evening wear, her hair styled in the most wonderful of ways. Crowds would adore her and she would be regarded as the most beautiful of all, a queen of upper-echelon Vault life.

Her mother and father had told her that it would be so, that their lovely little girl would be a queen amongst her people, that her breeding ensured the raw charisma and beauty needed to outcompete all the other children every year in the annual pageant and talent show. That when she was ready she could use her talents to become the Vault Overseer and take charge of her people, leading them into an age of such serene class, grace and entertainment that her fellow vault-dwellers would never feel the need to remember the war, or the outside.

*****

After the collapse of the Masters army in 2162 a rather elegantly dressed super-mutant climbed up into the shifting sand and sunshine of the wasteland. Dressed in a rather fetching black evening gown, some shiny, shiny jewellery and a great blue-green hat, she wandered for a time, lost and alone, with only her dreams of greatness to keep her company. While wandering she would scavenge old items of clothing, wigs, dresses, tops, and anything else she deemed “fashionable. She eventually came to the town of Broken Hills, where the people seemed to accept her.

She settled in a small shack at the edge of town, wandering into the waste for days at a time on scavenging expeditions, returning with bundles of clothes which she would fix up into some of the most fashionable affairs that the waste had ever seen. At first the others in the town would make fun of her, teasing her for her silly sense of dress, calling it “impractical” or “garish” but over time they began to like having her around (it helped that she acted as the towns’ seamstress, making new clothes and repairing old ones for the community). Each day she would walk around town in a new ensemble of “high-fashion” clothing and people would say “My, isn’t that lovely!”

She realised that she liked being called lovely, enjoying the way it made her feel when people complimented her in this way (she chose to ignore the less complimentary things that were said about her). So it was that Lovely, the wastelands most elegant super-mutant, was born.

Over time the inhabitants of Broken Hills abandoned the town, resettling in other areas. So Lovely, her client base having vanished, began to wander again, travelling east with a group of super-mutants. One day, when they were passing through a deserted pre-war town, Lovely’s attention was stolen by a flash of bright red in a shattered store window. Without calling out she ambled away from the group to the shopfront, marvelling as she came across the most beautiful hat she had ever seen, a bright red and purple number with a wonderful lace band. She stood for a time, admiring her new find, putting it on and looking at her reflection in the shattered glass of the shop window, not realising that the other mutants had wandered away, unaware of her absence.

Lovely was alone again, left with her visions of greatness. But at least this time she had a new hat, a full suitcase of wonderful clothes, and a whole city full of fashionable accoutrements to explore!"

Made and rendered in DAZstudio 4.5. The hat was made in Hexagon by myself. The dress was made by Vampyric Saiyaness (download link here: [link] . The Vault Boy graffiti is not mine, I converted it from here ([link] . Post work in GIMP.

I love her expression! I always found it hard to get a 'realistic' expression in DazStudio. Her eye looks sad, her mouth looks unsure. Very good!

Thank you so much!
I tend to re-texturing/colouring most of my clothing, skins and props during set-up in DAZ as I only have a limited number of props etc. The graffiti on the wall is one such example, as is Lovely's skin. It makes me very happy to get such nice feedback on something most people normally don't pick up on

I love this to bits! It's such an endearing albeit sad story. The more I learn about Super Mutants, the more I feel bad for them, so this resonates really well with me. It's also just an adorable story and premise and she just looks so gosh-darn cute. There's still something so demure and awkwardly cute about her pose and expression. I love the clothing (thanks for using my dress! XD), her red shoes - every girl needs a hot pair of shoes - her pretty ribbon and hat - her make-up is pretty atrocious but for a Super Mutant, I think she applied it really well! That would have been funny to watch.

Great environment too! I love all the scattered props around and the Pip-Boy on the wall just makes it. I love it!

All in all, I really enjoy your stories. It makes pictures 100% more interesting. The picture speaks for itself but having that background history just makes it more realistic and I feel much more sympathetic toward the character. Anyway, I'll stop rambling. Great job! And bring on more Fallout fanart!

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! I have had a soft spot for the Fallout super-mutants ever since I read up on them a little while back. Their story is quite sad and I especially feel bad for, and really really like, the eccentric ones.
It's why I wanted to make this picture. I wanted to make a special individual who would play on all the eccentricities and niceties of the super-mutants and who would emphasise how tragic their story really is.
Lovely is really just a little girl at heart, and while she doesn't remember the events prior to her mutation, she does have dreams about them. I'm still not sure in my head whether she associates herself directly with them or whether she just tries to emulate the visions she has to make herself feel more comfortable with the way she is.
Anyway, thank you, I really appreciate the lovely feedback
Hopefully I'll have some more fallout fan-art soon!

Very nice! I've always felt sorry for the super-mutants once we learned their sad tale. I'm glad Lovely got in touch with her inner superstar.

Thank you so much! I always had a soft spot for them once I found out what had happened to them, especially when you come across the more "special" ones.
I thought it would be nice to write a story about one of these unlucky ones
