I feel a little bit like the bigger figure is an adult, while the smaller is a child.  All of the little stickmen represent society or culture at large.  Society controls the faucet in the adult's head, and out pours all these thoughts, feelings, and beliefs into the child -- beliefs that reflect the society.

The stickmen then go about controlling the child, and the cycle repeats itself.

This piece really resonates with me because I feel like I was raised in a situation like this.  I was raised in a religion that is very much cultural, and my parents instilled values in me that reflected that culture's belief system.  My parents really expected nothing from me but to be a wife and mother, since that's what the culture they were raised in expected.

That's a beautiful interpretation.

I was raised in an extremely similar environment so I feel you on a pretty painful level actually. I think one of the worst things you can do to a child is pour your hard opinions into their heads before they're old enough to interpret what you mean and just lap it up. They never get the chance to think for themselves, and breaking out of that created cage can often be very painful indeed.

Especially when you break out of the mold and your parents and entire social circle disapproves.  "You've just got a rebellious spirit!  If you you are questioning our leadership and having these derisive feelings then YOU need to repent." I thought for the longest time there was something wrong with me that I could never cram myself into the mold my religion's culture had constructed for me even though I tried.  Maybe I am just rebellious, I thought.  Maybe I am broken.  But no.  I am wired the way I am, and I have my own interpretation of my religion that makes many people angry.

I'm still steeped in that culture in many ways.  I've gotten to the point that I am very open in speaking out about the things that are wrong with my religion, but man, when you do that, even among people who you think are fairly liberal-minded, you are shut down so fast.  Nobody wants to listen.  Everybody turns off their brains.  It's very hard watching kids continue to be raised the same way I was, especially the girls.

I can understand how that would be extremely frustrating - I live in a country where voicing any 'haram' opinion is grounds for social ostracism at the very least.
So I can definitely feel your pain with the people in your community treating you like an outsider for you simply having different opinions. Hang in there Bo, don't back down with giving out your own views.

Thanks!  It's nice to know there are people who understand.

Great to see this one caused such a load of interpretations. Though I personally can't see into it deeper.
Aside from maybe the support for one being being sucked away by many small others.

People often grow using others, even destroying them... that's what I'm seeing here.

Oh my, very interesting indeed! I can see that too now, your cynical outlook on this matches my own, but in a completely different direction. I like it!

How many artists have poured their heart and soul out to create something in which there is a part of them in each piece that they create? This is what I think this picture is about. The larger person represents their main persona online, while the little ones represents the characters made by that said persona.  Human imagination is boundless, but what limits that is the limited resources the real life counterpart can access in real life. The tap represents the amount of imagination one can pour, but it was only limited by the person itself. Therefore, it would be close to impossible for the culmination of all things created to exceed the person creating them.

There was a danger for putting too much heart and soul to the creations, though, as they can be rather demanding and try to get more creativity and imagination so that they can be as great as, or even greater than, the main persona. It may even end up killing the main persona, with the victor claiming that spot, but the real life creator will either mourn for the loss or forget about it completely.

There was some joyful undertones in this picture, maybe with a bit of worry too, but it wasn't as scary as it looks with all these things connecting to the main persona. Sharing is caring, after all.

Oh my, you interpreted my artwork perfectly.
Yes, to me this could also be seen as my pressure to start to 'live up' to the credit these doodles have gotten, and I'm really trying to not cave into that pressure.

I really like your idea of the main large person being the 'good' one, it's VERY different to the other views on this.
Really well-said, I always enjoy reading your thoughts! So well-detailed too, it's an horor having your views on my doodles.

NemoX7 [2016-07-30 22:16:36 +0000 UTC]

Reminds me of Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World", of which I'm currently reading. Where in this future ideal world consists of an indoctrinated society, where humans are hatched in bottles, tampered with during their days as embryos into being selected as either the stunted, looked down upon epsilon class or to be nurtured to be the superior beta and alpha classes, where intelligence and propagandist thought, such as "everyone belongs to everyone else", are drilled into them throughout their infant lives by a form called hypnopaedia.

In Huxley's "Brave New World", the mere mention of "mother","father", or "birth" are considered obsencities in a world where happiness is manufactured as a drug, and promiscuity and sexual liasons are heightened. This is a world where the works of Shakespeare are considered uncivilised, the act of religious worship viewed as a joke, and pornographic related movies are shown at specialised "feely" cinemas.

Anyways... I did originally have a point. But such as the butterfly, it flitted, flapped, collided with the window of my mind, and sadly, snuffed it. Though I will say that your doodle and Huxley's "Brave New World" are quite evidently linked by that general theme of society, where all must conform to the desires and whims of those with power, influence and persuasion.

Oh, what a wonderful interpretation! I LOVE that book so I guess a part of it seeped into the drawing ehe~

I think this pic is more cynical than Huxley's piece... perhaps it's more like 1984? Have you read that one?

This is interesting. My interpretation is how parents pass along their fears and biases to their children who intern pass it along to their grandchildren. So our pasts begin even before we are born. They're proving this kind of connection via our physical health through epigenetics as well.

first of all, I love ths piece. it's again really neat but really chaotic at the same time
do you think about what to draw beforehand or do you just draw and kinda 'go with the flow'?
and what is your interpretation of this piece, if you don't mind sharing your thoughts?
because I'm not 100% sure about the big person's + the person on the stairs meaning

plus I wanted to ask why you stopped adding poetry into the description? I think it was a pretty nice addition

IllusriArt In reply to qhost-milk [2016-07-30 19:02:09 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much, Hotaru - I'm very happy you like it!

I usually have a REALLY vague idea in my head, and I draw a circle and it takes off from there.

This is my (admittedly cynical haha) outlook/observation on society's pressure on you to conform. The large Stickman is society, pouring its expectations and views over you (the middle-sized Stickman), and you just get covered in it, while the rest of society (the little stickmens) further tug at the expectations over you, adding pressure to conform, slowly trapping you. The little Stickman on top of the drain is just the first member of society turning on the drain for you.

About the poems/phrases - I still add them but less frequently unless they're REALLY good imo - because I felt I was often saying too much about my own view, thus taking away the viewer's ability to form their own interpretations. Now people are giving MUCH more personal interpretations, which I appreciate more. Now I only give my own views if people ask.

qhost-milk In reply to IllusriArt [2016-07-30 19:15:17 +0000 UTC]

ah yea that makes sense! I already thought that it's some kind of criticism about the society//manipulation
you expressed the situation pretty well! OTL

yea I also thought that they're really helpfull to understand your view and they supported the message of the pictures really well
but on the other hand you're right - it's important to give freedom to the viewer's interpretations, it's really interesting to see the differences >//w//<
so there are pros and cons for them, but I personally think they were a good thing ♥ I'm always a fan of poetry hehe!

Hehe the poems/phrases won't be going away for sure, I'll keep posting when I feel they're really good. I'm very happy you enjoy them, and I'll make sure to keep em coming! ^-^ <3
