Description
Orcas are called Gaqrin (meaning giant blackfish) in the Common Tongue. They are the largest species of Kaimeran Orcinus. They are descended from orcas harvest off Africa's west coast during the late Pleistocene. Most are fish specialists, but some target marine mammals in shallow waters or sharks in the open ocean. Unlike orcas of Earth, they are not apex predators, and are themselves prey of megalodon, zanitel, and the colossal mosasaur Motomazor. Although the inland sea offers sanctuary from these predators, the waters are shallow enough that orcas sometimes struggle with being spotted before they can properly ambush. While hunting for seals, young sloths, and walruses, orcas are well known to strand themselves, something they only have to face from the occasional kurajaku. They have populated the polar seas, but are quite rare compared to their polar-specialized cousins, and are relegated to hunting fish in these waters.

Like orcas of Earth, Gaqrin live in pods of related females and their young, lead by an elder female and defended by one or more of her sons. As they are prey species to Motomazor, megalodon, elasmosaurs, and macroraptorial sperm whales, it is very important to have a few large sons in the pod, and this rank of pod defender is extremely important in Kaimere.
