He's a Shiloh Shepherd, an offshoot of the German Shepherd breed bred for a larger size and mostly sable coloration.

They're not all long coated. There are stock coated dogs as well. Mine is, in fact, a stock coat. I didn't like the long coats, either.

I researched them for years before I got one. There is a lot of weird and conflicting information out there about them. But they are extremely smart and healthy dogs. I trained mine to run with my sled dogs.

Really? They do kinda look like a complicated kind of breed to figure out. They're a new breed right? I did tons of research about GSD's before I got one too, but I've always known lots about them. Thats really cool that you can run him on a sled lol

Yeah, there are several breed clubs for the Shilohs, because supposedly the original breeder is kinda... off. I have read her website and she rants and raves about anyone who does anything other with their breeding programs than what SHE wants. A lot of people who bought healthy, breedable dogs from her got tired of her attitude and all the "remarks" she made about them and the dogs they bought from her. Anyone who left her club to breed independently got shunned and their dogs instantly considered "mutts" and their kennels considered "puppy mills" by her if they were not registered in her club. So, now there are three affiliated clubs of people who left her original club, and now hers stands alone with a lot fewer people than the others.
I had to meet with and talk to a LOT of different people to get things straight.
Anyway, enough with that. Shilohs basically originated from large German Shepherd Dogs crossed with a mountain sheep dog breed (I think it used to be called an Illyrian Sheepdog) Giant Malamute.
Both of these other breeds are quite influential, and I can see a lot of mountain dog traits in my Shiloh. He's also extremely muscular and strong, and actually took the place of a Malamute I had to retire on my sled team. He learns much more quickly than a Malamute, though, and is a much faster runner. He earned an AKC puppy S.T.A.R.S. certification when he was only four months old. He is very friendly and watchful, and gets along great with both people and all different kinds of animals. So far, he's been the best dog I've ever had.

Wow she'll probably go down in history as one of the craziest dog breeders. I would have left her too, thats just so ridiculous for her to think that people would stay with her when shes like that. Oh well I mean what can you do? Just another crazy dog lady.
Your dog sounds pretty amazing I'd love to meet a dog like him! Do you have any pictures of him wit the sled team or anything?

Yeah, that lady is pretty nuts, in my oppinion. I think she got that way after her husband died (I think he was a drug addict, and that had something to do with his death.)
And yes, I have pictures of him with the sled team. I just took them, so they're still in my camera. He was too young to run with the team last year, so I don't have that many pictures yet. I may post some eventually.
