Description I'm not so sure about this one...I like the composition but the curl is a bit ugly or something.

I think it's really nice.
The focal point is in the curl. The natural plant looks absolutely fascinating because you don't need to mess with the plant itself. It holds the beauty of nature in the image.

The colors are simple but nice. There are around six shades of green: sage, leaf, forest, mint. etc., There's not a look of overplacement of the subjects and it has a whimsical but still realistic look about it.

Composition wise, the center is the obvious focus, but the blurred leaves around it still maintain a variety of detail.
I would prefer less of a crowded area, the other leaves, though blurry seem to become a point of attention as well.

Thanks very much for the in depth critique, it's great to get feedback on pieces you're unsure about.

I tend to agree in regards to the cluttered foreground, I might try a tighter crop

Thanks again!

A unique approach to macro photography, the results of which are hugely appealing.

The most obvious and spectacular aspect of this photo is the framing. Using natural blocks of colour, out of focus, to encircle the little twirly vine is an inspired choice and works beautifully.

The vine itself is sharp and well defined, and stands out from a plain, light background.

There are a few little technical issues that I'd attempt to fix for future reference. There are some weird coloured fringes around the leaves at the bottom of the frame, which don't quite look natural. These could probably be desaturated out in Photoshop, although they don't detract heavily from the shot.

I'd have also considered a tighter crop. The massive blank blob of green on the left of the frame is a little overwhelming, and I think compositionally the shot would have been more pleasing if the vine was centered.

Nonetheless, it's a beautiful photo, very original in terms of macro shots, and a pleasure to behold.

Thanks so much for the incredibly encouraging critique The feedback is hugely appreciated.

I think I will try a tighter crop and check out the overly-saturated areas you pointed out.

Thanks again, I found your critique very up-lifting and helpful

No, there is nothing ugly in this shot! I adore it! Love the soft blur and lush greens, and the focus on the spiral is perfect. Instant fave!
