Description The roadside sign at Russell Farm's Market on the Trans Canada Highway, Vancouver Island. www.russellfarmsmarket.ca/

Also as a black and white HDR photo - :thumb149350441: That edit created using Photomatix and CS3.

(Originally a photo, edited using Luminance and GiMP on the Ubuntu operated tower of power. There's a learning curve here but I'm having a blast!)

Molti ringraziamenti!

I hope I said that right. I really appreciate that you liked the aged look and retro quality of the image. My Italian isn't exactly great but any use of the word perfect in any form makes me smile.

Much appreciated!

For some reason, DA won't let me write a critique. So, just let me say the subdued color really works for this image. The only thing I would change is the composition. I think the image would be a bit stronger if the truck wasn't centered. Aside from that, well done!

I didn't have a choice about centering the truck. Due to constraints with movement in the parking lot, the weather and the fact that there were other things in the grass that would have gotten into the frame, I really had to work to get the shot that I would be happy with perspective-wise.

I appreciate your comment and I agree that it may have made the image more interesting or given it more character. I really liked the desaturation and the effect that removing some of the colour had, too. I loved this photo as a B&W HDR when I first posted it but I thought it would be fun to see what else I could do.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and suggestions. I really appreciate it!

I'm glad you re-posted it. It is stronger, I think, with the color. The desaturation lends to the nostalgic character of the image and gives it a very wistful feel. On the whole, I love this image.

I know that this technique works wonderfully with old things, autos, locomotives and I bet even old buildings. How does it work with portraits of people?

As soon as I get a positive answer from the young lady I've asked to model for some portrait shots I have planned (got my fingers crossed that she'll say yes) I'll be happy to let you know.

So far, I can only say that it lends some more character to the image of a person. There are people in :thumb167927410: but they aren't the focal point of the photo.

This technique can be applied in different ways and to varying degrees and I know that there are many who do so VERY effectively when working with human subjects. My advice would be to just give it a try and see what happens!

I don't know. That would be beyond my skills with Photoshop and this was processed as an HDR, as well. No Windows involved either. All Linux from the time I downloaded it off the camera. All open source, start to finish.

You could always try it my way!

(Does that mean you think it's okay?)
