Description with pastillage as my canvas and cocoa butter/powder as my medium, i painted this in class.

Pastillage is a dough made of powdered sugar, gelatin and vinegar so technically, it is 100% edible, however, i wouldn't recommend it.

#87 (food) of 100 Themes of challenge

The beginning of a commission:
Offering cocoa paintings, such as Snoopy Plaque.

Order time: please order will enough ahead. the plaque to be painted upon, is pastillage rolled to 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick and requires about 3 to 5 days to dry. after that is sanding and then painting. i would recommend ordering it at least 3 weeks in advanced if you need it by a certain date. this gives me plenty of time to plan for it.

Prices: based on time plus supplies and shipping. the hourly rate wont be outrageous. Snoopy plaque took 3 hours.

Sizes: no bigger than an 8x10. if you would like a larger one, note me with the picture you would like and i will let you know if i may be able to paint it.

Shipping: once it becomes to hot here in az, i will have to begin shipping only next day and 2nd day. cocoa butter is extremely temperature sensitive, and i would like you to have your piece in perfect condition. they will all be packed with an ice pack and foam padding.

Care: keep away from direct heat or any source of heat at all. if you can, get a shadow box to place it in. this keeps dust from getting to it. a normal picture frame isnt big enough for it unless you have one specially made for it to hold about 3 mattes. each plaque is approximately 1/8 to 3/8 inch thick and is very fragile. the less handling of it possible and the proper care will insure a long life.

I will have more about the commissions as i think of them.

That is very unique. Snoopy and Woodstock, painted with cocoa butter/powder, is so wonderfully done with the different shades of brown. Very skillful!

Wow haven't done this since school (lol). It's fun though! I really like the look of shades of cocoa butter. But mine got broken pretty easily back then :/

aww. well, i did this one about a year ago and its still sitting on my shelf. in a little bit, itll have to survive a 1500 mile move. preferably in my car along with my guitar and other gumpaste/pastillage work. i even saved the cradle from my bassinette cake. I hope the heat doesnt make the cocoa butter bleed. it is an awesome medium to work in. i absolutely love it.

thanks. ive got quite a few temperature sensitive products that i also need to get over there too. ill need to get a large cooler, some water tight bags, and plenty of ice along the way. i dnt want my mycryo to turn into block cocoa butter, nor my callebaut callets to turn into chocolate bricks. most of my ingredients will be riding with me. luckily, my mom has a nice cool basement for storing this stuff.

Wonderfully done, what kind of brush did you paint this with?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

IMntHRimEVRYWHER In reply to Fantasiaa [2008-11-29 21:43:03 +0000 UTC]

thanks. i had to use itty bitty tiny brushes, anything smaller than a 1, i mainly used 0/10 and maybe a small flat brush. the plaque is about 4x7. i mainly worked like 6inches away from the table it was on.
