After: Fear
Sammy shivered in Wish's arms.
In between his sobs and breathing.... The world was quiet.
No screaming...
No monsters roars...
No battle cries followed by crashes and cracks...
Wish felt Sammy relax slightly and looked down to him. "Listen Sammy..." He said softly.
Sammy's breathing hitched slightly as he lifted his ears to do so.
Wind blowing through the leaves.
A chummy humming somewhere on the ground below.
A gurp's scream off in the distance.
"No more monsters," Wish whispered as he felt the wyngling relax. "No more fighting. We're safe, I promise." He tilted his head slightly. "Please open you eyes son."
Sammy hesitated a long moment.
Then slowly opened his eyes.
Wish smiled softly and relaxed his grip. Sammy looked up to his dad, then turned slightly to look behind himself.
Nothing but trees. Moonweed and Loomee glowed slightly against the dark sky, blinking as they looked for others.
No danger anywhere in sight.
Sammy blinked a few times before turning back to his dad.
"The threat is gone now Sammy." He said calmly. "You don't have to be scared anymore. Gros got hurt, yes. But look at me, and Comet, and Sirius. We are all still here. At least, most of me." Wish smirked and lifted his leg stump slightly.
Sammy looked to his missing leg and frowned slightly.
Wish held Sammy a little tighter. "It will be ok."
"H-how?" Sammy asked quietly. "A-after that...How ca-hh-n anything be good?"
Wish hesitated a moment then looked to him. "Some times... pain and sorrow can help you feel real joy. Life hurts you sometimes, nothing can ever change that. But without that pain, we would never know true joy and love?" He smiled. "The next time you're out there watching Loomee's, wont it feel so much happier? These little guys survived, and still light up the night sky. Wont seeing them make you feel better after being scared for so long?"
Sammy thought for a moment. After feeling so bad trapped in his room... Seeing Loomees again did sound much more calming than ever.
"Or how about a nice hot meal with the ones you love?" Wish smiled. "Doesn't that sound even more amazing than normal?"
Sammy nodded and wiped his eyes. "Y-yea."
Wish nodded. "Sometimes sorrow can make us see how amazing the love in our life is. And we feel it that much stronger."
Sammy sniffed and rested his head against his fathers chest. "Tha-hh-ank you Dad." He said softly, wrapping his arms as much around his body as he could.
"Of course." Wish rubbed Sammy's back. "We are all here for you son. But we can't help if you shut us out. We want to help you feel safe, because we love you."
Sammy nodded and smiled slightly. "I L-love you guys too."
Wish smiled and hugged him slightly.
They were both quiet for while, before a certain wynglings stomach decided to sing a song. Wish chuckled slightly and glanced to Sammy. "Hungry?"
Sammy nodded and blushed slightly.
"Why don't we go get a nice warm meal?" Wish suggested. "Comet has been worried, and im sure she wants to make you a nice big meal."
Sammy smiled softly. "I would l-lu-hh-ve that."
