Description
This junk was once a fairly typical cargo ship owned by a city's guild of merchants. Then one day war was declared and this ship was pressed into service. While each of the Empire's coastal cities did maintain a few warships, drafting merchant ships and converting them for war was a proven way of quickly bolstering the navy when needed. She was modified with a boxy gun deck along her forward section and she was outfitted with eleven cannons (sixteen broadside, two forward, one aft) and had a squad of matchlock armed marines assigned to her. As a rule such ships either acted as gun platforms during marine sieges or as commerce raiders, acting in groups of two to four to disrupt and cease the foe's merchant fleets. Such conversions as a rule preformed poorly against purpose built warships of the same size in battle, but the simple volume of these ships which could be quickly mustered could be decisive.
