Opposing gay marriage is not homophobia. Think about Agient Greece. Homosexuality was normal and respected, but they weren't still allowed to get married. My oldiest big sister opposes gay marriage (because she's Christian and she thinks it's a sin) but she doesn't have anything against hosexuality itself. I myself support gay marriage, because if once Atheists and multicultural couples can get married why gays and lesbians can't?

Supporting! If two people love each other for who they are, then why can't they be happy together?

There are a handful of instances in which I think interfering with the actions of others is justified... for example, if a bus driver wants to kill himself by driving off a cliff during work hours, you could justifiably deny him the "right" to do this in the interest of the other twelve people on the bus who really don't feel like dying at that point.
But unless someone's behavior is clearly and demonstrably hurting someone else, I don't see much of a point in trying to adjust it. There are plenty of activities I think are morally WRONG (see the stamp above for a hint), but "wrong" does not mean the same thing as "should be banned." No one ever had their moral foundation strengthened by being forced to make the right choices.

(Correction: I meant to say "Almost no one seems to come up with the idea that one can reject an other's practice and still defend the right to do it", of course.)
You are right with your example. Just as well as the freedom of speech does not grant the right to exercise slander, one has to set limits for the freedom of action as well. But one must be very careful about the choice of word one uses to draw the lines. For example, it is very common that people feel "hurt" when they see how others are sexually more successful. And many of these "hurt" people long for bans and sanctions ensuring "modesty", "purity" and "virtue". They do not care that a person forced to obey is not necessarily convinced; they are already content with that person not being superior to them anymore. And not only superiority is perceived as a threat, mere otherness can already suffice.
For such people, even "not my taste" can equal "should be banned for everyone".

Meh, as long as you are not doing anything unethical or illegal (IE- any form of persecution), then there is no problem. I mean, it's a bit twisted to respect HALF the straight marriages in one's life, and not respect ANY of the same-sex marriages, but hey, that's your right as a member of a democracy.

it's a little.... twisted, in my opinion, but i can't exactly argue against your right to free speech so long as you're not out attacking people directly with it...
