Description Quick little thing. I've always loved making things that play on gigantic size differences. There's something I find facinating about that feeling of being like a grain of sand compared so something vast. Also, I love big beasts and dragons. Go figure.

Not the most orignal of pictures, but I noticed my gallery doesn't have any representation of these kinds of pictures I love so much, so: Issue adressed. Looks a bit like this dragon , but a few thousand years later.

More to come. Enjoy

Damn. I mean goddamn. Fucking amazing work.Β
I love that feeling of like being next to or seeing something so gigantic, so impossibly large. You've captured that beautifully. Kudos!

There's a problem (serious one, imo) with this painting. You went for the gigantic look, and thing is... I don't grasp the sense of scale this creature has. It appears to be huge, but I don't see or feel it. If you want a good example of what I'm talking about, look at this:
[link]
What you see there is a GREAT play with lighting, distant objects and all sorts of things that emphasis the scale of the object in the picture I linked.

Thing is, I think what's missing in this painting is the play with lighting in the distance. NOTE that you painted the closer part pretty good, sharp and dark, just how it's supposed to be. HOWEVER, the body of the dragon in the distance has about the same lighting as it is up close. The distant body should be less colorful. Take a look at how you drew the city in the background. It looks authentic, the reason for this is the fact that the lighting effects and the mist in the distance covers it correctly. However, it is not the case with the dragon.

Hope you can take criticism well. In my opinion, an artist should always inspire himself to get better, and I know it best. xD

Mmmyes, I suppose so.

Gorgeous! I love the composition and the immense size of the beast it helps to convey. The palette is beautiful and the rough strokes/textures on the underbelly and the plank are fantastic.

Well, even though it's rather quick I still think it's wonderful and most of all majestic. It conveys this spirit of grandeur and yet lightness that can only be observed in Zeppelins, flying whales and your not yet defined creature.

Oh, and you should read Kukuburi --> [link] (Even though this comic progresses slowly, it's got that well dosed cup of surrealism in it that makes it worth a read).

Hmm... I've got nothing more to say about this and I don't have much time to comment either. I guess I just fav this instead.

Imson In reply to kentriodon [2008-03-06 22:13:13 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say it's the only way to experience it. Standing at the base of a steep mountain wall does that very well for me. Makes me want to try balooning though. Hmm...

Thanks for the link. Couldn't have come at a better time. Was searching for some inspiration and this works perfectly. Really odd, looks like something I would make. It's like looking at a paralell self in a way... The work the artist has done is superb.

Well yeah, I know. The comment is kind of lame - but I only had a limited time at my disposal and I didn't know what else to write, so what I actually wrote wasn't too intelligent (it's a bad excuse, meh...).
Ah well. Maybe next time.

seriousness aside now...holy crap! that looks like the michigan bridge where i might be moving o.O can you fax me that monster?

Somehow I *knew* someone would claim that bridge looked like something. I've been thinking avbout it since I made it. Congratulations, you claimed that spot!

Intense!
I think the only problem in the pic, is that by showing so many parts of it in this perspective, it gives a really fast motion sense, while the woman is standing still, breaking it a bit.

Still a lovely pic. And hurray for giganoumous monsters!!

Imson In reply to zsabreuser [2008-03-06 22:31:33 +0000 UTC]

Which is more or less what I was aiming for. To me, the thing isn't very fast-moving. I suppose that effects how I drew it.
